This experience was the last straw from a history of consistently terrible service. A complete breakdown in running a business and no leadership on the part of the manager.
The restaurant was quite empty except for a few patrons (in the entire restaurant, not just our area). We were seated at a table in the bar area with the bartender as our server. The problem was, she never greeted us, nor was our drink order taken. We sat there for fifteen minutes while other patrons were seated after us, with the same result. No greet, no orders taken. Nothing.
I asked the hostess if she would please seat us in another section, as the server whose section we were in, was obviously not able to handle the very few patrons in her section. Instead, the hostess brings out the manager who, after asking what the problem was, quickly went to bring the bartender to our table, then promptly left.
Bad to worse. The bartender acted like we were Inconveniencing her. She hastily took our drink and food orders, then went to the other tables who sat after us. After receiving our drinks (pop), then after waiting over 15 minutes, the table adjacent to us received their food, and they ordered more food than we did (our orders were basic) Still, we sat there another 8-10 minutes with no food. That's when I decided to heck with this place. We finished our drinks, then left.
I don't want to hear they don't have any staff because if that were the case, they should either modify their hours or simply shut down. It was not busy at all so there was no reason for such a failure. I worked as a server many years ago and when we were slammed (which was every lunch and dinner), we hustled amidst the chaos, but that's just the way it was, and we delivered. This experience seemed like a nursing home. It was quiet with just a few tables sat. There's no way it was busy. No challenge whatsoever.
The manager did not lead. A true leader would have already known things were rough (which I guarantee, they weren't). Furthermore, had they known their servers were falling behind, they should have stepped up and helped out. Take orders. Run food to tables, etc. Management is not above this work. This restaurant needs a leadership course up and down the chain, as well as expecting more than the bare minimum out of their servers, and I say this due to the fact that it was dead in there. If the place was packed with the same amount of servers, then I would understand, but it wasn't. Just a few tables IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT. Servers, if you can't handle even a non-pace, then you need to find another line of work. Management: step up and be the example of what TEAMWORK is. You have that responsibility as a manager (team leader). Needless to say, we will not be visiting this restaurant again. Friendly tip: Check out Barrel House on Utica Ridge. They are a fine example of how to do it right. Excellent...
Read moreThis was, hands down, the worst experience that I’ve had at Red Robin. I placed an online order for curbside pickup with a specified time of 5:30pm today. I arrived at 5:35pm and called into the store to check-in for curbside delivery. I was told that the order would be brought out ASAP. 20 minutes later, and my order still hasn’t been brought out. So I call the store again, and a different hostess condescendingly says to me “well, you’re supposed to call and check on you know.” This was after I told her that I had called at 5:35pm, so I reminded her that I had already called in. I think it made sense to her the second time. After this call, it was now close to 30 minutes past when my order was supposed to be ready, and come to find out that the order had been sitting under a heat lamp for over 20 minutes. The solution offered was that the order could be “remade”. The expectation that I was going to wait another 30 minutes for my food was disappointing, to say the least. Fast forward to when I got home. The food was, as expected, cold. Anticipating that I would have to warm the food when I got home, regardless (due to my commute), I had ordered all of the toppings to be put on the side. I also ordered onion strings for the burger, and paid extra for them. Only some of the toppings were on the side. Others were left on the burger. Bacon was part of the actual burger ordered, and there was no bacon, not in the box labeled “toppings” or on the burger itself. And there were exactly five onion strings in the topping box. The person who brought my food out to me “apologized” for the wait, and confessed that she “spaced out” regarding my order. But what I feel this boils down to is a few things, including poor restaurant management, a disregard for providing good customer service, and the lack of desire by employees to provide the curbside service. It seems that the expectation was that I would get frustrated enough and come in and get my order. However, I tipped on an order that did not require table service as a token of appreciation for the anticipated service that was to be provided. Do better, Red Robin in...
Read moreMost important to this review, tried to charge $3 for an 'entertainment fee.' Food was okay, I guessed it wasn't gonna be rip roaring when they didn't bother to ask how I like my burger cooked after I finished my order and realized I forgot to specify. Never got a single refill of water, 2 burgers ordered in a mostly empty restaurant took almost 20 minutes and server forgot the appetizer dip, so when it arrived hot 10 minutes later most of the burger and fries I wanted to dip were mostly eaten. My father and I waited another 20 minutes with again no refill and empty plates but no one came to take a check. I walked up to the kitchen where my server was on her phone, but no worries another server walked past her to ask how he can help. He got me a water, check and a box. 3 minutes later no one came to let us pay the check so we walked to the front register which didn't let us pay told us to do it at table and server would be right over. Another 3 minutes I guessed the gaming system on each table might be payment system, backed out of the game menu that was preloaded, on my and the surrounding tables. Check and subtotal didn't match, had to backout and find subtotal explanation where am 'entertainment fee' of 3 dollars had been added walked back to kitchen were server was again on her phone, this time no acknowledged my approach so I asked mid air with my server still looking at her phone less than 2 feet from me what the entertainment fee was for. Then my server finally looked up and said it was for playing games, I stated in hadnt played games and only pushed 2 buttons, blackout and pay button before a subtotal with the extra charge was already present. She then took off the charge and we...
