I thought long and hard about leaving this review because all the hospital's supporting staff were wonderful from the schedulers, lab techs, nurses, the director, etc. However, the oncologist at this hospital needs a course in ethics and cultural competency. I started at UM in 2023 because I was told this hospital gives quality care to breast cancer patients but my experiences with both oncologists assigned to me were a nightmare. Let’s start with Dr. Richa Dawar. Her first encounter with me via phone was an unempathic response to my egg preservation process. I was told, “why would you even want to freeze your eggs when you’re not going to be around for your children”. I reported her to my social worker and hospital psychologist and nothing was done. I proceeded to see her and every encounter was rushed, unmotivating, unempathic, and quite frankly like I’m talking to a doctor from a reality tv show that can barely explain accurate information or results about my diagnosis. She also was texting during my appointment and raised her fingers up at me to wait a minute when I was asking her questions. My final straw was her sighing after I asked where my cancer has spread as if she had an attitude with me for wanting to know more about my diagnosis. There is more I wanna say but this was the gist of my appointments with her. Lastly is Dr. Krill who smiles and pretends to give a shit but in reality her kindness comes with microaggressions using phrases such as “it’s in the chart you can read your chart” with a smile from the purge as if I’m supposed to understand any of the results written in medical jargon. This hospital broke my heart and my wallet. I’m 33 years old and living in Florida alone. It’s already hard attending a hospital with older white people just staring at you like a science experiment but then to be treated unfairly by experts that are supposed to have your best interest was even more disappointing. I am seeing a new oncologist at another cancer hospital that I am very pleased with. I’m happy I trusted my gut and got out of there before starting another year of...
Read moreThe nurses and doctors here are very good and really work to make appointments streamlined. Also, I’m a hard stick and my blood draw went very smoothly.
However, the front clinic staff are totally incompetent which is my reasoning for my star ranking. It took 2.5 hours for them to process me and get in contact with my insurance before they would take me to my appointment room. They severely need to work on streamlining this initial process as it is the largest rate determining step for the entire clinic. I wasn’t treated like this last year when I was here.
In the end I paid out of pocket to be able to have my appointment today. I’m comfortable with waiting, but there’s no reason why a private clinic should be having patients wait so long when I can easy provide a credit card for potential self pay and they can continue to sort the insurance end of things while I go on with my doctors appointment. This clinic’s current flow focuses more on ensuring profit rather than patient...
