I've bought multiple trees from Tree Land (specifically, their main lot on Santa Fe), and I would never go anywhere else for a Christmas tree. I also have a couple friends that I referred here last year, and they are also repeat customers now!
The trees here are so fresh and I've never seen a bad looking tree. They also have a variety of species, shapes, and sizes. I think it would be hard to not find a tree you like here. The selection is also very large, at least every time I've gone, which is always the first week of December.
What puts them over the top is their customer service. Everyone there is always very nice. There are several young men I've worked with that are always friendly, helpful, and hard-working. Even when I've gone when they haven't been busy, they are always making themselves useful by cleaning and organizing the lot.
This year, we were unfortunate to pick a bad tree. Even though the lot cuts an inch off the bottom of the tree when you purchase it, our tree that we got on Dec. 1st just was not taking on any water. At home, we even took it out of the base and cut another inch off. We tried all the "tricks": hot water, sugar, aspirin, etc... but nothing worked and the tree seemed to be suffering from lack of water. I called Tree Land on Dec. 4th just to see if they had any other last-ditch efforts for us to try. Frank immediately told me to just bring the tree back and they would exchange it for another tree. I was a little surprised, yet very happy by this, and he explained that they stand by their trees 100% and guarantee a quality Christmas tree.
I got there 2 hours later with the tree and explained to the nearest person the situation and that I had called and was told to bring the tree in. They happily took the tree off my car, and while I tried explaining the problems we had with it, the man assured me there was no reason to explain, they'll exchange it no problem. He said they just wanted to make sure that I was happy, since that's what they care about most. I picked out a new tree, and the same person came and found me to see if he could help, and since it was just me and my 1 year old (my husband was still at work while I tried to rescue our Christmas tree situation!), he was even so nice as to take a tree I liked off the display and hold it for me and turn it around so I could get a better look. He tied it up to my car for me and we went on our way. So painless.
I was already really happy with Tree Land because I've always liked the trees, but now I'm just so impressed with how they handled the situation we had. We felt like WE did something wrong (we didn't, but we couldn't help but worry), so their response was unexpected and just above-and-beyond.
For anyone complaining about prices - I've never seen an issue. We pay $65-75 every year for 7-8 foot trees and I think it's a fair price. I've seen cheaper trees in the past at different lots (which I'm sure have gone up since I've started going to Tree Land), but they are never as fresh and the selection is never as good. I've always purchased our trees from Tree Land for $10-20 less than what the tag says... make sure you print out their $10 off coupon from their website. With a lot of things, you get what you pay for, and this is one of them. But I've never seen a tree under 5 feet for $70 like another reviewer said. We've never paid more than $75, even when getting the priciest species, and we have never gotten a tree under 7 feet. I don't trust that review.
A fun little anecdote - on my way home yesterday with my replacement tree, I was at a stop light right next to a small lot in Capitol Hill. Some people that were looking for a tree at that lot stopped to look at my tree and wondered where I got and said they liked what I had. Even tied to the car, they were...
Read moreTried this place this year because their site claims it's family owned and local. After wandering the lot, I was greeted by a friendly staff member, and I was helped relatively quickly. There's a sign out front that says if you text a message to a phone number, you get a discount on specific tree heights. I did not see this until after checkout. My only gripe is that I paid twice as much this year as I did last year for a similar tree shape, size, and species. Actually, it's not so much that I paid such an outrageous price for the tree, it's the fact that I was told a price for the tree in the field (only a handful of trees had prices on them, of course, none of the trees I was looking into), and then as they were cutting the trunk and wrapping it up for transport, I was told that that was the price with a text discount (I hadn't even read that sign yet or even attempted texting the number. I had no idea there was a 'deal' for texting), so the helper writes on a price tag the discounted price, but also the 'original' price that I was never told until we were wrapping things up. By that point, everything was ready to roll, so I went to the cashier and was told I could only pay that discounted price if i sent the text message at the cash register. if i didn't send that message, I'd pay the full price that was never even told to me until we were about to check out. When I explained how shady things had gotten in a matter of minutes, the cashier said that the varied prices were due to different species and heights having different prices (I was looking at 3 of the same height, same species of tree, and that was irrelevant in this argument of varied prices for the same, individual, one and only tree we were talking about). Everything about the checkout experience was uncomfortable and felt sketchy, but I hate conflict and felt trapped. Ended up paying for the tree and leaving with the worst possible taste in my mouth and enough disdain to leave a review as a warning to others. Although this place might be family owned, there are several other locally owned places I'd suggest over this place any day. After looking through the competition's lots after I had bought this tree, I know for a fact you'll end up paying less for a similar tree anyway, while helping other local families who are...
Read moreI am happy with my tree, but the service was poor and the pricing was fishy. I chose this location based off their websites pricing, $39.99-$47.99 (with coupon) for 5' - 6' trees.
My family picked our tree and were given a hand written (on the spot) price tag. Our 5' tree was priced at $169.99 and he also wrote "with coupon" on the tag. He then quickly picked up our tree and rushed it to the front gate.
Once I caught up with him to tell him that I was not happy with this price, he informed me that the online pricing was for pre-orders only. When I got home, I did find this sentence at the bottom of the web page (literally the last sentence).
We then negotiated pricing and landed at $70.00 plus tax (with coupon). I was not happy with this prices but I was already frustrated and tired from this experience and the haggling.
I went into the caboos to pay. While in line I listened to 5 people complain about the same thing. All had the coupon in hand and didn't see that the person who wrote out their price tag wrote "with coupon" on their ticket. They expressed their frustration, but it was clear the cashier is in on the scam. The cashier said "that you did not have the buy the tree, but they guarantee it will last 45 days". Unfortunately, for all of us, our trees was already strapped to our vehicles.
One other thing. Prior to paying when we walked to our car with our tree, there was already a tree on top of my vehicle. Obviously, this was pretty frustrating as I had brought a blanket to protect my roof.
Never again. We should have walked away and read the other 1...
