We went to Build a Bear in the West county mall on June 4th and it was around 5pm and it was only me and my girlfriend in there and there was two workers. One I did not catch the name of but she was very helpful and extremely kind. We asked if they had any Darth Vader bears left and she (the nice one) informed us they only had the display left and they would sell it so us “As is”. Usually when someone says as it that means as you see it on the shelf. Anyway so we were stuffing the chameleon that my girlfriend wanted and I said “normally the lightsaber add on would be more” and the polite worker said “yes normally it would be.” So everything went fine until we got up to the counter then the other worker (Megan) who was on her phone, said that I we needed to pay for the lightsaber too. I said that they both had said it came as is. Previously The polite worker has said that they can sell it as is and she checked with Megan and she reaffirmed that it was correct and they can sell it as is. As soon as I was up at the checkout though and said how they said it comes as is she said the lightsaber is extra. I said “But you guys said it comes as is” she said with a very rude face and tone. “Sir the bear comes as is but the lightsaber that is not attached (which it was it was already sewn on to the bear before we walked into the store) is an add on and is extra” I pointed out how it was already sewed on to the bear and she ripped it out of my hands and went to cut it off. I had already attempted to make it clear that we were going to pay no matter what I was just stating what we were told. My girlfriend had to practically yell that we were going to pay it because Megan was being so deranged. At this point my girlfriend is having a panic attack and we just pay and go to leave. I told the other worker who had walked to another part of the store that I hope she had a great day and she was very helpful. This is the first bad experience I’ve had and Megan was just downright rude and made me very...

Upon entering for my child’s 3rd birthday (day of), the workers were standing around chatting. When finally approached after awkwardly looking where to start, we explained it was our son’s birthday and we were curious to learn more about the birthday program. They told us we would have needed to sign up at least 1 day in advance to their rewards program to receive any sort of birthday gimmick.
Meanwhile, we were switched off to a second employee, after the first one who was wearing a mask and sounded like she had a crude like cough stayed near a the counter. ( does build a bear offer sick days?)
Meanwhile, the process of stuffing the dog seemed fun for the kid, it ended there. The rest of the time spent seemed like they were trying to upsell the parent on everything.
I would expect more warmth, personalization, and up front pricing on various pricing options. Did not think $55 was worth the build-a-bear experience and would not recommend...
Read moreWe came in for our daughter to get her birthday bear for her August birthday. While the first 2 employees we encountered made the experience confusing and weren’t exactly warm, ALLISON turned it around completely for us! She was so incredibly kind and made every step magical for our daughter. Every single employee past that point interacted sweetly with our children, complemented their choices on picks and were extremely helpful since we had never been in before. They even offered a coupon for future use to apologize for the first bit of our experience which felt above and beyond to us! It makes a huge difference when you have employees that love their job and interact so sweetly with littles. Kids can tell too!! They even sang to our daughter and made her feel soooo special for her birthday! Thank you so much for all the employees, Allison & Riley specifically, that made sure it was a great experience for Charli & Elias! ❤️ I hope this gets...
