Mama Coo's Boutique — Local services in Detroit

I have been going to Mama Coo’s for years now and I always feel like I find a piece of myself in there. I have acquired great pieces that are locally made by Detroit artists - ranging from home decor to clothing and accessories. I have purchased gifts for my whole family there and it’s where I bring friends who are visiting Detroit for the first time to find their locally made souvenirs. You can see the intention that Lana puts into curating every piece in there - and to top it off she has GREAT taste. From the hand-carved wood Michigan “mitten” that hangs in my dining room, my partners favorite beard oil or the Black Lives Matter pin I gifted him, to my Frida earrings - you just can’t go wrong at Mama Coo’s. I grew up around the block and after having watched endless amounts of coming and going and "conquistador" attitudes dominating Corktown, and its "comeback" narrative, it is SO refreshing to have someone who works so hard for the community to bring a vibrant fixture that gives us something more. This is where I go when I want to feel better about myself and I have something I am looking forward to on a Friday night. It's where I have bought something to wear for a funeral. I feel genuinely happy to spend my money here because she keeps it affordable and ethical and beyond that Lana has her entire community in mind, at all times and she looks out for Detroit. Stopped by Mama Coo’s on a whim while waiting on a brunch reservation and this place was MAGICAL!! I feel like I could’ve bought the entire store and the person working there, Desmond, was hyping me up to live my shopping spree fantasy, ha! Everything was so well curated and all the brass, vintage, and other uniqueties were incredibly beautiful. There were SO many pieces that would be great for spiritual spaces like an altar!
