VERY disappointing! I love Barnes & Noble, and have been a member for years. I've lived in three different states and have been a regular customer at B&N in every town where I resided. So I was excited to attend the grand opening in Doylestown. I arrived early in the evening after work. Unfortunately, I was NOT greeted upon entry by any of the staff. I roamed around for a good half hour or more, and NO ONE asked if I needed help finding anything. I went to checkout with 2 books, a cd, and a magazine. There was no one ahead of me in line and only one person behind me waiting to check out. When I got to the register, a woman yawned quite loudly and asked if I was ready. She barely looked up as she scanned my items. There were two other people behind the register. It apperared that a man (possibly the manager) was trying to show another employee where she could find something. Neither one acknowledging myself or the customer behind me. No one asked if I found everything ok, or what I thought of the store. No one even asked if I was a B&N member. Honestly, you wouldn't have even known it was the grand opening if it wasn't for the sign outside.
One of the best things about other B&N locations is the staff. They love to chat about great books and get to know you on a first name basis. That was NOT the case here. I'd like to point out that I waited to post this comment until I got to visit the Doylestown location a second time. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, thinking it might have been a challenging first day. So I went this past weekend and had a similar experience. At this point, I'd rather drive out of the way to Montgomeryville and give my business to friendly staff that care about their customers.
We definitely need a good Barnes & Noble in Doylestown, so I hope they get their act together. The lack of warmth and customer service usually trickles down from management. I hope the manager does better with his staff. Also, add more seating in the kids section as well as throughout the store! When people can sit and commiserate over books, you will sell more. I truly hope they improve upon their service. It would be a shame to see...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLove visiting this location. I have never lived this close to a B&N and was thrilled to see one opening nearby.
Selection in all genres I have browsed is well curated. Everything is well represented and nothing dominates the shelves like you can see elsewhere (looking at you Star Wars). I always look through the Lego selection and board games, hardly ever leaving that section empty handed.
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about stock. Have received great recommendations and had fun conversations while checking out.
Other reviewerās comments on lack of cafe and reading areas are valid, especially since those can be viewed as staples of the storeās brand. When they announced that it would be 3/4 the size of a full size store, I kinda figured there would be some compromises to fit the space. Personally I never use these features so they arenāt deal breakers for me.
Overall I am quite happy to have this as my primary location and will continue visiting for all my book...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA very nice chain store but overall a big disappointment for many reasons.
It is lacking a cafe and places to sit and read. Was hoping this could be a cool hang out spot, but you can tell itās designed to generate maximum profit and to get you in and out quickly, which is disappointing. There is zero culture or anything here that acknowledges locals, or even the people who work there or what they like to read. Everything was full price, no BOGOs or anything. Why shop here? You can go on Amazon and buy the same books and gifts for 25-40% less. They push some kind of paid membership for discounts which just feels very odd and out of touch.
With that being said, it is always nice to browse a bookstore and to smell the books. The selection was robust. But the lack of culture, cafe, and seating is really a bummer. I will continue to shop local at the doylestown bookshop.
Also, whatās with the exterior? The color scheme on the sign is a putrid mustard color makes it...
