I took my daughter to get new mattresses for my guest bedroom. I needed to replace 2 twin mattresses as soon as possible. Slumberland website showed that they had 2 different mattresses in stock and available in the DBQ store. It was this detail that had us select Slumberland over other places in Dubuque, IA.
Thankfully my daughter did all the prep work regarding which mattresses would be plush and available immediately. She did this by checking online for the twin mattresses and options needed. Of course buying a mattress needs to be done in person so a person can tell if the description matches the real thing. Unfortunately, the sales person, who was very nice, wasn’t very knowledgeable about any thing we asked.
First off, we weren’t even offered the optional furniture insurance, which was offered if we had purchased the mattresses on the Slumberland website. Add to that he was totally unaware of the two options offered for box springs. He only showed us one type that was metal and isn’t a box spring at all. It’s a metal frame for a pull out bed. Crazy!
Regardless of questioning him about the fact that the website said there was another box spring type product that was around $200, our sales person had no clue about it. He said only one was offered for that specific mattress. Since the mattresses are for an antique headboard, the metal frame he said was all they offered, would not work.
I again feel the sales person was very nice. But at no time did he reach out to ask other workers any of my questions. There were two older clerks just sitting there doing nothing but chatting with each other. I guess talking about there own things was more important then even acknowledging customers in the store.
FYI: If you try and buy something from Slumberland that shows available online in a particular store, just know it’s not true. The item may be in the closest distribution center, but NOT in the actual store. So the earliest we were offered delivery for “in store” items was 10 days from date of purchase.
To conclude, this was my first purchase ever at any Slumberland store or online. Because of management not training their people correctly, I realized after we left that I should have tried out the quality of the mattresses I was interested in, but then gone home to purchase them online. I’m saying that because I honestly don’t feel that anything I was told in store was actually correct.
Last thing, Slumberland could have made a larger purchase from us, but because of the quality of the training for their employees they missed out on selling us the correct box springs offered online, the extra mattress insurance that was also offered online, and the set up and haul away of the old mattresses.
I know our sales person was very capable but it’s hard to sell things to customers if you don’t even understand how, or...
Read moreWe found great furniture there - however I cannot leave a review of the furniture itself because it has yet to arrive. When we looked online it said it would be 16-18 weeks (a salesman at another store confirmed this). So when we went into the Dubuque Slumberland and the store manager told us to ignore those dates and that it would actually be here in SIX weeks, I should have trusted my gut.
However, I foolishly trusted the salesman and now here we are going on month #2 without a couch. We are officially a month past when the store manager told us it would arrive, and all of the order updates are consistent with the 16-18 week timeline. Very disappointed, as I feel that we were lied to, and by the store manager no less. Our order was transferred to a different store since we do not live in the Dubuque area, and I did receive a small discount from that store manager. However, I’m not sure the small discount covers the incredible inconvenience of not having furniture in our living room for what will likely be 3-4 months. That is also not to mention that the matching chair we ordered will likely not be here until 6 months from the order date, and again, we were told 6 weeks. I get that furniture is backordered right now due to the pandemic, but being lied to or misled for a sale is never acceptable for a business, much less...
