BEWARE BEFORE SIGNING UP!!!

I attempted to call Anytime Fitness in Duluth multiple times to cancel my membership and could not get a hold of a live person once to discuss this. To the point that I had to cancel my debit card and get a new one out right because Anytime Fitness would not stop charging me for a membership I no longer wanted. I was only in their facility two times total for the entire life span of my membership. Upon receiving a text and email from them stating they would be sending charges to collections if not paid soon, I promptly contacted the same person that texted me. Finally received an answer from them and spoke the Renee (Renea?) who is what I believe to be the Manager. She then proceeds to tell me that I’ll have to pay almost $600 to get out of the membership as I had to pay 70% of the total membership cost to cancel per my contract. A contract in which those details were NEVER made clear to me at any point or time. So I’ve now had to pay almost $600 to cancel a membership I had tried cancelling with them NUMEROUS times and which I only ever used twice period. I will workout from home with no equipment whatsoever before I ever give Anytime Fitness another cent of my hard earned money. The way this was handled was deplorable and unacceptable.

If you are going to put someone into a locked in contract for a base membership with no added benefits or upgrade, then the terms of that contract need to be made explicitly clear to your client verbally while they are signing it. Not one person alive in this world reads every line on every piece of paperwork put in front of them when signing up for a gym membership. It is shady and disgusting to completely refrain from providing that information to a client, just so you can nab them for 70% of the total membership cost if they determine that your facility is not for them due to any number of reasons as that is exactly what was done here. This entire scenario feels like a bait and switch. I will be warning every person I know to avoid signing up with any Anytime Fitness location if this is the standard for how you treat...

It truly saddens my heart to have to leave this gym. I have been coming here religiously for almost three years and after my latest membership expired, I decided not to renew. This gym is simply awesome as well as the people that works here and works out here. The staff here listens to feedback and values your input, and the community is largely friendly. In the three years I've been here, I've seen a lot of improvements be made based on the feedback of its members, so be assured that should you join, your feedback will be heard!

The only reason why I decided not to renew is simply due to the price. The price of membership here is almost double of what my current gym membership is. While this is certainly the most well-maintained gym in the area, I can't justify spending close to $500 for an annual membership compared to the $260 I paid at another gym. That said, if they make their prices more competitive, I'd certainly be quick to rejoin in a heartbeat! I'm a man of habit and while my current gym fulfills my needs, I just simply am not as invested in it as much as I was coming here. I miss this place a lot!

Also, in the event that I don't return, I want to give a quick shoutout to Justin for helping me with PT after I tore my pec! He's a very friendly dude who knows how to look out for his clients and keep folks motivated! I also want to give a quick shoutout to Scott as well for also being an awesome dude! We never trained together, but he's also a very friendly guy who's easy to talk to and just a generally fun guy to be around!
