The Berkeley, formerly The Marquis on Berkeley, but under new management again. The second or third management company within the past 3 years. I can't keep track. If they had ZERO stars, The Berkeley would get MINUS ZERO.
The complex has declined within the past few years. The pool was out of service for many months at a time (green, smelled like old settled water), dog feces every where, the gate goes out quite frequently, maintenance takes a month or more to fix repairs with no mandatory contractual compensation returned to you after the 48 hours recommended period (HVAC unit is still having issues -- a month to repair it the last time, took a month to replace the dishwasher (two weeks before they checked on my request and a month to replace), bedroom outlet still has a short over 3 years now, gave a moldy used sink sprayer - had to complain to receive a clean one), still waiting 3 years later for our carpets to be cleaned, no concern for any life emergencies that may occur (told them my retired ARMY VET husband lost his NEW CIVILIAN job and can they give me 3 days after the late rent due date grace period to pay...no empathy for my husband losing his job, but more, a hesitant "okay, we will waive the late fee but you better be on time or else we will file an eviction...with a two email reminder of how we will be evicted" -- mind you, we are never later than even the late rent date...ironically, afterwards, which by the way, ended up paying on time anyway, I made the my "HELP US" call out of being courteous; later, we paid on January 1st and received a late notification reminder on January 3rd telling me to make my payment...it is the holiday week right?!? I already paid my rent on the 1st?!? I have never received a reminder to pay my rent notice...EVER...why, cause...WE PAY WITHIN THE SCHEDULED TIME PERIOD...ON TIME), the garbage area is constantly overflowing, they always have an attitude in the front office, and yet rent continues to increase.
I complained about the entire property filled with dog feces and the fact I didn't receive my contractual compensation for being without a dishwasher for over a month. The front office told me it was the holidays and the maintenance crew was going to be with their family, but wait, I reported the issue three weeks prior to the Christmas holidays along with the hallway lights being out. My husband reiterated this in the front office too. The complex just recently replaced the hallways lights and made them more up to date. Two months after my report of walking down dark hallways. The leasing manager told me to call and talk to Amber, property manager, about my issues and she sent me an email to ask me to call the office to discuss our issues. I'm the tenant, I believe you should be calling me to make sure I am okay with all the issues that have occurred within the past three years.
I AM NOT calling Amber. I would prefer to receive a call from the corporate office or Amber and a credit for my previous month old contractual mandatory maintenance issue. After being loyal tenants who always paid on time for the past 3 and half years, we would've loved to leave a positive review but instead this place is a worthless money pit that is going to hell fast while draining your pockets with no empathy for their tenants. Good luck to the...
Read moreI moved in February of this year & Let me start with the management is extremely kind and attentive but this is not the best place to live. It is noisy at all times of night I am currently writing this at 11:30pm on a Thursday night and kids are still outside playing soccer and basketball in the tennis court. The Courtsey officer is never here when you call he tells you call the non emergency police. I had roaches when I moved in one got stuck in the clock on my stove! My apartment was renovated terribly paint on my floor, dirt left from previous tenants, floor patched up incorrectly. Stains on the ceiling Again the management is great so they always send some one to fix or help but that should never had happen and they never fix it properly. The gate is always broken, carts all around, the neigborhood. They do attempt to maintain the property they have gotten the buildings power washed but they came on a different day that we were told and flooded the from of my apartment because water came in under the door. Maintenance did come to assist immediately. Kids are always in the gym after hours I am a mom and go once my kids are asleep and can’t work out because they are hanging out it’s usually 10-10:30 pm! My neighbors are complete noisy through the entire day. Their dog pees on their patio and it drops onto mine. I was told I would be getting a power wash havent yet I’ve complained multiple times and requested a transfers. I was informed they would waive the transfer fee BUT I have to pay another deposit, another application and background check, and submit my paystubs and also pay the same rent I pay for my current unit even though the unit they would transfer me to is listed $400 cheaper! I am moving when my lease is up. I would give the office staff, manager amber and maintenance team 4 stars they are awesome but the...
Read moreI lived at Marquis on Berkeley for approximately 2 years and moved out May 2018. I didn’t move out for management/property related reasons, it was personal. I had a great experience. Remember, when apartment hunting, we don’t all have the same experiences, for those who are trying to make a sound decision. While no apartment complex is perfect, the Marquis on Berkley is not the worse either. I had an a/c issue once as well & maintenance was on top of the situation. I did remain without a/c for a few days, but thankfully it was late Fall. Management addressed most issues timely. I’ve dealt with Bianca and Gabby and they were fair in my opinion. I loved living there. What was important to me was safety, location, resident appreciation, and response time of maintenance request or any other issue/concerns. When the gate is broken by people who are trying to speed behind other cars, the gate is fixed timely. I would say within three days or less. I’ve never seen the grounds nasty and trashy. The upkeep has always been near excellent. The maintenance team would start cleaning before the office open sometimes. Not sure if things changed when I left, but this is my true observation of living there for 2 years. Mold can become and issue, but keep you a bottle of Clorox and it solves the issues at least for a month or two and you may have to spray again. If you can keep moisture out of the window seals and clean up the water around the tub area, you will be fine. I would recommend this complex to other families who wish to stay until they find a home or if they can afford the spike in rent. This is my fair view of the property. I hope this help...
