Boba Mocha — Restaurant in Duluth

Since Suno closed their location over here I figured I’d give Boba Mocha a try! I don’t go out much due to COVID but I figured I could pick up for carry out! The first time I went was good! Staff is friendly/quick and the milk tea was good. The second time I went I noticed an older man (who I assumed is the owner) and a younger man loading supplies from their car into the store. They weren’t wearing masks which was a little off putting but I figured they were just carrying supplies in; no big deal.

I went tonight to pick up some bubble tea and was horrified to find the owner standing in the small store, maskless, communicating loudly and closely with a 5+ group of other customers. Beyond being oddly loud and a bit aggressive in his communication with his team members; it is disrespectful to me as the customer and to his employees by not being considerate enough to put on a simple face covering (there is a sign on the front of the store requiring them!).

This location prepares food and drinks and I would expect that, especially so in the middle of a pandemic, a prudent owner or manager would do their best to ensure the safety and health of their employees and their customers. My partner and I were mortified with his carelessness and were disturbed with how aggressively it seemed he communicated with his employees.

Fortunately there are many other Bubble Tea stores nearby who respect their employees and customers enough to wear a mask. We will not be returning to this location during or...

EDIT: I went back to give them another chance. They have a new employee there (seemed like she was getting training?). Polite and friendly. Kudos to her, she also made my drinks super fast and accurately. I ordered takeout on a half sweet house milk tea w/ boba to get a baseline for bubble tea quality. It had a bit of an...oddly sour aftertaste? I don't know if it was the tea, the milk that was used, or perhaps the boba itself. Between this and the drinks from my last visit, I'd rate the bubble tea as average. Not bad, but not amazing enough to draw me over regularly from the other side of town.

Cashier was super friendly taking my order, but unfortunately went downhill from there. I ordered two drinks, both were made with wrong/missing toppings. Both drinks were remade, one still wasn't right- an employee realized I was handed the wrong drink and gave me the correct one. People make mistakes, I don't mind. I do mind that the other employee- the one that had to remake my two drinks- walked out from the back, saw me standing at the counter again, and snapped at me. "I made it with crystal boba, just like you wanted! What do you want! Which drink is wrong!" So...I get yelled at because my order...

I have been coming here for a good amount of time now. I didn't discover this place, but one of my good friends introduced me to it. I always come here to get some Taro tea and it is always made to perfection. Every time I come in I am always greeted and never have to wait for my drink. The atmosphere is pleasant and the workers are friendly. I believe the owner is in there most of the time and he is a very nice man. He will always greet you (with a smile) and even have a conversation with you if you are up to. I find this place to be a cute place to go on a small date or the perfect place to get some studying done. Try this place you won't regret it. They also have a punch in the whole type of rewards card where you can score yourself a free drink after a certain amount of drinks. My favorite drink is the Taro tea and they never seem to disappoint. Trust me! I have tried Taro tea at many places and they can never get it right, soooo I made this my GO-TO spot! p.s.
