I bought a display model water heater from Menards. They inspected it and told me everything was there and it great shape. It turns out that the ignition switch was not even on it. We found this out AFTER installing (I guess I was ignorant for trusting the store employees that things were good to go). At this time, we also noticed that the manufacturers sticker said 2012 on it! We only bought this (already out of warranty and outdated heater) 3 days ago!
After explaining the situation, they didn't apologize or do anything to fix the situation. They wouldn't give me an ignition from another machine, wouldn't give me any comparable options (they best they could do was either a heater in a week or me paying $300+ more dollars for a water heater that wouldn't fit in my house). I explained that my wife and I are teachers and work in the day and we have young kids who will need baths and hot water. As they should never have been selling an outdated (like I bought this three days ago and the 9 year manufactures warranty was already expired by 3 years.
When I spoke with the stores GM (Johnny at the Carpentersville store) he was condescending and rude. He told me that this was his store and kept talking over me and walking around like he was better than people. He treated a life-long customer like garbage. After I got my refund (which I had to pay a plumber to help me get the heater back to Menards) I told him I would never come back and neither would my friends and family and he didn't care at all. He just let a teacher pay for a water heater, bring it home and pay a plumber to install it, and (when the heater was found to be missing a part and also way too old to be sold) he never apologized or took responsibility. He had no concern for my family being without hot water and did not even offer a reasonable replacement after I brought the heater in at 9:30pm (after emptying it disconnecting it again). This is a horrible store manager, the worst customer service I have experienced, etc. I am also bringing back the $500 in fans I bought on the same day because I do not trust them and they don't respect their customers.

Read moreI always shop here, but lately the sales person their are very very bad and quality of menards is going down the drain because of that. I wanted to enquire for a railing and the lady their showed no interest thinking I won't buy, so after asking her just 2 questions, I placed my special order with her restricting myself from asking any more questions. Now, I have been enquiring for 2 weeks after the estimated delivery date(for pickup) to check my order for the second time. They asked to wait on phone for about 2 minutes, it took 5 minutes, then the person tells it is in Plano Distribution Center. They can't even provide a simple reason why it is late or when tentatively it would be available or if I would be informed upon arrival. They act like as if it is not their problem, better they learn to acknowledge properly and respond to the customer. I asked a tentative date for pickup, and the person deliberately hangs up. I don't have any information on when it would be available at this time for me to pick up. There is trouble getting the status of the order for me to pickup, which I already had placed with much trouble. Hating to talk to the guys there. Better to go get the item and move out. Very rude staffs in the making. I am a regular customer and shop once a week mostly there since I like their products, but no more like the sales people there. Quality of their service is going down the drain. At the most, expect them to answer which product is in which aisle, anything more they will be upset. There are also other tactics some of their workers do, when in yard and looking for help, they try to abscond and not be there, leaving us to load things ourselves. Good job folks there. Specifically in the yard entrance, if I ask for someone prior to come and help, he would always show up after I had finished loading the stuff in the yard myself. If I keep waiting for someone to come and load, then he will show up after 15 mins. I have observed this few times when looking for help loading, they go to the south if you are going north. Very very poor...
Read moreTo say that Daisy was a horrible manager is an understatement. My husband and I were preparing to purchase a gun safe and were ready to spend a pretty penny there. She was called in by a cashier who needed her assistance. She initially sighed with widened eyes as she walked away from the conversation she was giggling about with her coworkers. She had no care for the customers n tried to rush the decision. My husband brought to her attention that it was tampered with, and would he be able to return if it was missing a few parts. She again rushed us, with not a care, interrupted, and wasn't helpful with a take it or leave it attitude. I wanted to say something badly but resorted to holding my tongue and spending my money elsewhere. I resorted to driving to Batavia, where a lady named katlin went above and beyond to help us. Katlin walked us through the process with the biggest smile on her face. She was so helpful and assisted us in picking the right safe for my family and I. It's unfortunate that Daisy acted so horribly. As a manager of a large company myself, she's not the right fit at all. Customer care is nowhere to be found. I could understand if someone was having a bad day ( since it was 6-7, so she could have been tiered) but she clearly was having fun with coworkers,( and I sympathize with that) but that's not much of an excuse to mistreat the people who treated you with respect and who are literally the bread n butter of...
