I shop at Platt Hill in Carpentersville all the time. Over the years, I have spent thousands of dollars there, but I will never shop there again! When you buy trees, shrubs, and some other perennials, they tell you that they guarantee their plants for a year. Last year, I bought a hydrangea tree. This spring, it did not come back. When I returned it, they told me they only give 50% credit. I replied that no one mentioned anything about half, just that it was guaranteed for a year, but ok, I replaced the tree. I planted the new tree, and it did great up until the last two weeks. It died. I just went back to Platt Hill and I was told that because I took the 50% credit, I could not take another credit this year. I argued that it's a different new tree, so it should be guaranteed too. Then the guy asked for my receipt. I thought he was going to give me a partial credit, but no, he wrote on it, "no credit" and rudely told me, "This is standard" and moved on to the couple behind me. I left and called the assistant store manager. She was SO RUDE, even before I even started telling her the issue, like I was interrupting her day or something. I explained everything to her, and her response was, "Yeah, that's right, and.. ". I told her they just lost a very good, loyal customer and I will take my business to Countryside because they guarantee all of their plants 100%, to which she snarkingly replied, "That's OK". The thing is, I would not have been so upset about the plants or the return if the staff weren't so rude. But, after today, I will go to Countryside in Crystal Lake. They have a bigger selection, more knowledgeable people, and guarantee their plants for 100% of what you paid for them. It's worth the extra 10...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm not really a green thumb type of girl, but I'm trying. I come into the store today and was looking for some indoor flowers and some hanging plants. I pretty much gave up looking at the plants. I asked 4 different employees for help and expressed that I'm pretty ignorant to plant life and needed help. One girl tried to help, but didn't seem to grasp that she needed to dumb down the plants lingo, because everything she said went right over my head. Two other girls, just pointed to plants I could look at and walked away. Personal opinion, that's not helping. I already looked out of place and lost. Lastly, the guy in the landscape area, openly told me he had no clue on how to pick out house plants and the ladies indoor should help. To be fair to the guy, I was asking about plants outside of his work station and he didn't know I asked the ladies indoors and received little to not assistants. The only reason I'm giving the store 3 stars vs a 1 star is because of the in store section with all the pots and decor are located. The store always carry such cute items. I ending up buying two dinosaur planters š and two small orchids which I had to ask my neighbor for help in how to take care of them. The ladies at the registers are always helpful. I even told one of the cashier, I would have loved to buy more plants if I had some assistance from the outdoor ladies. After walking through the entire nursery three times and looked like a deer in headlights, I was done. My new dinosaur planters and ladies at the registers deserves a pat on the back. They saved the store from getting a 1 star...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreupdated review As promised I received the call and clarified what happened. I was granted the store credit and I was asked who I interacted with. I was hesitant to explain as I dealt with the person multiple times and it was always a pleasant experience. I was re-assured it was only to make sure the employees receive proper training on how to handle situations like mine. This is the Platt I have known since 2006.
original review You have just lost a loyal customer and gained me back. Last year in may 2023 I took both my boys to buy a Japanese maple for Motherās Day. My youngest was fighting brain cancer, a battle that he lost recently. This year since the maple was not blooming I called and asked what to do. Since the Japanese maple we purchased last year is 5 days past the year mark we were advised that we couldnāt get a refund or store credit and we were supposed to know we had to come back in April if it did not have any leaves. Too bad we were not advised when it was purchased. So now, we will go to another place to get our plants and trees. While we understand that rules are there for a reason it is surprising that the store is not even willing to offer a small discount to recognize e...
