Don't waste your time, gas, or money. Rude people. Overpriced knock-offs. Worn clothing being resold as new. Poorly managed.
Having never visited Dunn, I wasn't sure what to expect, but Jernigan's appeared to be a quaint little gift shop and boutique, so I decided to stop by. I was not greeted as I entered, which seemed unusual to me, being someone who frequents boutiques and specialty stores regularly. The cashiers, one very young and one much older, but trying too hard to appear young, couldn't stop chattering long enough to offer a hello. Their conversation could be heard throughout the store. Their lack of manners and country-bumpkin accents wouldn't have been as off-putting had their topic of conversation been even remotely decent. The older woman was the manager, I later discovered.
I did manage to find a few items I intended to buy, but after waiting 15 minutes for someone to assist me at the jewelry counter, I decided to put those items down ($300 worth) and make my way across the parking lot to the boutique. (Yes, you heard that correctly. They have an enclosed jewelry counter for their cheap costume pieces, and you have to cross the parking lot to get to their very tiny clothing boutique.)
The boutique was the best that China has to offer. Knock-offs selling for name brand prices. The dressing room was occupied so I heard the cashier (who reeked of cigarette smoke) tell a patron they could change in the bathroom. You could barely turn around without a clothing rack hitting you in the back. I can see where they try really hard to make it appear as though they are "uptown", but it is really a sad effort. I'm sure the "classy" women of Dunn think they are shopping at an elite boutique, but they probably do not venture from the Walmart or hair salon long enough to actually experience a truly cultured environment.
I did manage to drop $400 for a few items including, a top (that fell apart the first time it was worn), and a couple of dresses that I returned. The arms of the dresses smelled as if someone had worn and returned them. When I went back to return the dresses I was, once again, exposed to rude rednecks. I mentioned my experience at Jernigan's to another local and she confirmed that it is standard practice around that area for women in Dunn to buy dresses at Jernigan's, wear them once or twice, then return/exchange them. The cashier who handled my return did not seem surprised when I told her the arms had an odor like they had been worn.
I dare say, I will not shop at Jernigan's in the future. I prefer my boutique clothes to actually be boutique quality and unworn. I prefer to spend my money at an establishment owned by someone who actually understands what serving their customers...
Read moreTook my wife to get a new purse, she wanted the totes of simply southern. Walked out with nothing. Will not shop at a place where they will watch you like you are about to steal because the way you are dressed. The young dirty blond girl behind the jewelry counter. I have shopped here before and never had a problem, but blue jeans and a tshirt is just to low class. Went back to town and bought from...
Read moreThis place has decent gift options and knick knacks. Have used it more than once for last minute gifts and my wife loves to go here and look around. They also have the socks that some have offensive sayings which came as a shock considering the religious ties this area has, but I'm glad they do, and they have the "May be offensive" covers that go on them so people that shouldn't see it...
