I waited 3 months for evaluation appointments but I understand that long wait times are a reality now. However, what is unacceptable is how this organization tried to deny my 2yr old autistic- son speech services on the sole grounds that he was seeing another speech therapist. I was told that it would be " unethical" to recommend speech therapy. I explained to the therapist that my primary insurance only covers "20" sessions per year, and I was there to pursue more speech therapy through my secondary insurance. She said she would have to speak to her supervisor. She called later in the day attempting to quantify the amount of therapy/treatment my son receives. To be clear my son was seeing a speech therapist for 30 minutes once a week and he receives ABA for 15 hours a week. She then reiterated that she could not recommend speech therapy. I demanded to speak to her supervisor (Nicole) who also tried to gaslight me and boast about her many years of experience. At this point, I’m crying and very upset. Nicole did prompt the evaluating therapist to submit the recommendation but that was only after I informed her that my lawyer and advocate would need a written explanation detailing why my son was being denied services and why it was " unethical" to recommend speech therapy. I never thought my son would be denied an opportunity simply because I was being proactive in seeking therapy elsewhere until we could be seen by the place within walking distance from our home and accepted my secondary insurance. We have been without speech treatment for close to two months and we have been waiting for 4 months to be added to the schedule at Children's Specialized East Brunswick. Can you imagine the scenario if I had taken no for an answer ? Special needs moms, please arm yourself with a lawyer and advocate. This place tried to bully me and I wouldn't stand for it.
Update 6/25 : While my initial experience was horrible. I must say the therapists we worked with were amazing. Our amazing OT Ariel was super dedicated and compassionate!!
Our speech therapist, Steve, was...
Read moreOn Monday June 17, 2024, I took my child to Children's Specilist Hopsital for an Speech Therapy. I'm glad that I was with my child. The guy name is Steve Deutsch tested my child. He isn't nice at all and he did hold my child's wrist so tied when she was using her AAC Devices to Communicate and prompt her to use it. It was wrong that Steve didnt ask my permission about it. The wrose thing he did was called my child Stuiped.
I was very upset about it when we left from Children's Specilist Hopsital. I did called the Children's Specilist Hopsital to put an serious compaint about Steve Deutsch. I did spoked to Andrea from Children's Specilist hopsital superviors and told her of what happened.
Today Tuesday June 18, 2024, I did spoked to a different person name Nicole about what happened to my child of yesterday. Nicole is the speech supervise of East Brunswick NJ Children's Specilst Hospital. Nicole did say, I was right about the whole issues and not anyone shoouldnt put hands on any child. Nicole even told me that she will speak to Steve Deutshe about it. Nicole said to me, I'll make sure that to put the information on your child's information about it and not to have any men and mostly Steve Deutsch not go near my child and me about it. I also say that Steve Deutsch is a nevours man and also if you don't have any paients with special needs child then you are in a wrong job field.
Nicole did say to me on the phone saying how sorry that my child and I had a bad experience of what happened.
I'm not sorry of what I did and I did speak up about it and I'm standing up for my child who doesn't talk who has Aprixia, Autism Sperm and AHAD.
If Children's Specilist Hopsital read this review on the computer of what I say on this and want me to delete it, I WILL...
Read moreI brought my three-year-old daughter to see Dr. Debra Santiago "Ms. Vida" in effort to address some behavioral issues and for some parent training. We saw Ms. Vida for about two months, and she truly was a wealth of knowledge and expert in the field. With every session we were able to take what we learned back home and this without a doubt in my mind accelerated progress toward reaching significant milestones with our toddler. The behavioral issues have reduced and I'm a much better parent as a result of my exposure to Ms. Vida and Children's Specialized Hospital's East Brunswick location. Glad I called and grateful for this experience.
Also, the reception staff was friendly, organized and we received regular reminders and communication regarding our scheduled sessions. The entire office was clean, and the waiting area was kid friendly with televisions and sensory pads to keep...
