My wife and I stayed for three nights at the River Rhapsody cabin. The cabin itself was great, located in a beautiful spot right beside the river. All of the people with whom I spoke at Blue Sky could not have been nicer or more professional. We appreciated the check-in call on Friday morning, as well as the option to provide us another cabin if one could be found. We decided not to change cabins, as we were going to be there for only two more nights, and we had no desire to repack and relocate.
Unfortunately, our stay at River Rhapsody was a very mixed bag, and we doubt that we will ever return, or rent another cabin from Blue Sky. Numerous negatives marred our experience.
The worst problem we encountered was with the bed. The mattress was extremely hard, and the pillows were flimsy and had nothing to them. During our first night in the cabin, we found it virtually impossible to sleep. We were both wildly uncomfortable, so much so that we ended up getting a mattress pad and pillows for our subsequent nights in the cabin. We were so tired on Friday that we had to cancel plans for an event that night.
The cabin also was poorly cleaned, both inside and out. Chairs outside had spiderwebs and bird droppings on them that clearly had been there for some time. Inside, walking around in our socks, we stepped on numerous items all over the cabin, including quite a few dead bugs. The floors appeared not to have been swept well in a long time, and it seemed as though the rugs had not been vacuumed in a while.
Both a throw blanket in the living room and the blanket on the bed had disgusting stains on them.
In the bedroom, the rug curled up on one side, making it a tripping hazard. We attempted to set it right, but what it needs is some double-sided carpet tape to anchor it to the floor. We did trip on it several times.
More than a few pieces of silverware were also dirty.
When we arrived at the cabin, we found water in the bathtub.
On the back deck, seven of the “party lights” had burned out and not been replaced.
The small circular lights on the wraparound porch and down the steps leading toward the river did not work.
We also resented paying a $105 cleaning fee for a cabin that was not clean when we arrived. And since we were charged a cleaning fee, we should not have been required to take out the trash, collect up all the towels, and load and run the dishwasher.
While the people with whom I’ve spoken at Blue Sky have been very nice, not nearly enough effort was made to ensure that the cabin was prepped and ready for our stay. Properties should be checked regularly for any items that need to be addressed. As well, the cleaning staff should include somebody to check the work done.
When I notified Blue Sky of all the problems, we were told that they were sorry and that they would notify the cleaning staff and owner. That does little to ameliorate our subpar experience, or to mitigate the hefty charges we paid for an experience that did not merit it.
The truth is that this company dropped the ball. They should not have to remediate so many issues during a customer's stay; they should take care to ensure paying customers do not have problems with their properties. Yes, things happen, but this was a series of poor and careless work that significantly impacted our getaway.
I cannot speak to the claim that the mattress is new, only that it was rock-hard, and the three small pillows provided had no body to them.
After our stay, I wrote privately to the company to follow up. They responded to say they were sorry, they would address issues, and they hoped we would rent a cabin from them again. This was...
Read moreThis is a review of Hemlock Creek Cabin. My wife and I stayed there Feb 13-16. I'll start with the good. The cabin was clean and is in a good location (20 mins away from both Ellijay and Blue Ridge). The kitchen was well supplied. The deck overlooks the creek which runs right beside of the cabin and provides a wonderful and peaceful view with the sound of running water audible even when inside with the doors shut. The bathrooms were clean with ample space for our toiletries. The cabin is relatively easy to find and has a concrete drive for parking. We did not use the hot tub so I can't comment on that. Now for the not so good. We woke up at 230am on our last night there to find out that the power was out due to a passing storm. Our cabin was pitch black dark and cold. I could see that neighboring cabins still had lights on so I assumed that our cabin must be the only one without power. With overhead power lines running through an extremely wooded area, it would have been easy for a limb to have come down and taken out the power to the cabin. I decided i needed to contact someone regarding this but since the power was out, we also had no WiFi or cell phone service. So, I started driving in the middle of the night in a storm in an attempt to find a place where I could get a cell phone signal. I drove all the way to Blue Ridge with no success despite over sixty attempts to call the 24/7 Blue Sky help number. I was finally able to contact the help number once I was about a half mile from the cabin on my way back. I was told that there was a power outage in the area and that the reason neighboring cabins still had power was because they had backup generators. Of course my first question was why doesn't our cabin have a backup generator? I was simply told that they would pass that along to the owner. While no one can control the weather, having a backup generator in that area in my opinion is a must for safety and liability reasons. My wife and I got very little sleep that night and we were both put at risk due to the outage. While Blue Sky personnel were very polite, there was no offer of any kind of compensation. Again, you can't control the weather but it certainly wasn't mine or my wife's fault. The situation was not of our making and could have been avoided had the owner installed a generator. Other issues which ranged from simply annoying to not good at all included the fact that the cabin was drafty. There was a significant gap underneath the entry door which allowed cold air to come through (photo included). It was a cold and windy weekend and the wind audibly howled at times as it whipped through the gap in the door. You could also feel cold air coming through the light switch located beside the entry door. While the upstairs loft included a nice king sized bed, one of the support slats popped out from underneath the bed twice while we were sleeping on it (and no, we are not overweight). I had to get up in the middle of the night twice in order to fix the slat. The game room, which apparently doubles as a place for dogs as it has a dog bed and feeding dishes included, was lacking. It included a dart board that was completely worn out with the center cork missing and darts with feathers that kept falling out (pics included). The foosball or soccer table had a golf ball for a ball. There were no actual foosballs with the table (pic included). One last complaint regarding the firewood that was available. They left a good starter supply of firewood along with a lighter. The only problem is that there was no kindling or fire starter included so it was impossible to start a fire our first night. I rectified that the next day by stopping at Walmart for some kindling. I guess I could have gone outside and retrieved some small sticks to start the fire except it happened to be a wet, rainy weekend. Final positive feedback is that ALL of these issues are fixable. Many of them can be easily and cheaply fixed. But until these issues are addressed, I would not recommend staying...
Read moreI would not recommend Blue Sky Cabin Rentals if you are expecting a truly relaxing experience. My expeience with Blue Sky was unfortunately, anything but relaxing. There was a problem with the online chat part of their website. The supervisior Katie, requires the reservation specialist to work both phone calls and chat calls at the same time with phone calls being a priority. So, I was left hanging on a chat for over 20 minutes while they took a phone call. I got frustrated and just called in so I probably caused someone else to be left hanging.
The cabin was not clean on our arrival. I had to clean windows, sweep, vaccum, and mop floors. The information posted was not accurate for the internet network or contact information for Blue Sky.
There was a problem with the oven door handle coming off while in use causing the inner door and the outer door to seperate. I am very fortunate not to have been injured. However, when I called Blue Star and I said the words "this is a big inconvenience for us" The guest relations manager I spoke with said they could not compensate us. I never asked to be compensated, but I did expect them to aplogize for the inconvenience. Never once did she apologize. So then I satrted telling her about all the other things that were wrong with this stay hoping to still gain an apology. Nope it never came. Bottom line in my opinion, it must be a horrible place to work. Every employee I spoke with sounded miserable. As a result, they probably no longer take pride in doing their job well and keeping their clients happy. We love the area, but we will be looking for another rental agency until we find our own cabin and then you can bet Blue Sky won't be managing it for us.
After posting this I read some of the other reviews and there does seem to be a reoccuring complaint about the level of aggression, lack of compassion, and hostility toward clients by the staff at Blue Star when the client is expressing concerns or complaints. My first expeience with Blue Star was perfect, but this 2nd expeience was just horrible, but I was complaining. I am in agreement with Casey also from Florida. I will never do business with you again and I will recommend that my friends and family not use Blue Sky.
In response the Blue Sky Management: Yes, I did mention the fact that the cabin was not clean when you Guest Relations manager started getting short witrh me. I told her about having to wait over 20 minutes on the online chat. No, I did not ask the maintenance person to clean the cabin because he is not a housekeeper. I am sorry, but you are not being honest about the time. I kept the chat open and had called in and finished the call before your person ever came on. As far as the oven is concerned, the handle came off in my hand, the 2 parts of the door seperated, and I am lucky I was not injuried. I have posted pictutes to show that not ony was it dirty, but the handle came off and it it needed more than just tightening. Your inability to accept responsibility, is exactly why you are losing clients and why you have to hand pick the reviews you choose to post on your website. Everyone reading your response can see that it is really not a sincere apology. The only thing in my opinion that you are good at is spinning the truth, but google review readers can let the pictures tell part of the story here. Your company charged me $150 for a cleaning fee for a cabin that I had to clean myself. You are not being truthful when you say I never mentioned that the cabin...
