Abysmal repeated experience.
First my old refrigerator nearly died in June, needed new one quickly as temperatures were in low 90's. I previously tried to resuscitate the old beast, to no avail. So, in a moment of despair and a mental lapse I purchased an LG from the local Eau Claire store. Geek Squad delivery scheduled for June5th. So, what happens on June 5th? Nada, nothing--other than bunch of rotten food in the old refrigerator. Oh well. Lots of phone calls to the 'central' BB/GS number but a kind lady in India could not help. How could she? A nice gent in Mexico informed that my fridge was actually sold to someone else in the meantime. He guessed the other person must have needed it more. That happened not be true, but my faith was shaken. After hours on the phone, couple of visits to the store, some time mid July I got my fridge. In the interim I never knew when the delivery might happen, as the local crew was hermetically sealed and protected from actual customers by the overseas crew. On the bright side, when the guys finally arrived with the two weeks delay, they were most pleasant and helpful. Great crew.
So, as I am waiting for the fridge, my TV died, conveniently around July 4th. Have 5 year protection plan from GS, it is only 2 years after the purchase, so I scheduled a repair visit. Obviously (from the look of the screen), the main board needed replacement. So, I ask, could we just order the part up front, so the technician comes prepared? No way. The technician arrives and says that the TV indeed needs a new main board. OK, we'll see each other in 10 days for the repair. On the scheduled day, I take a half a day off to be home for the repair, and... You guessed it, nada, nothing happens. Nobody arrives, nobody calls. I go to the store. They know nothing. A week later I get a phone call. The technician fell ill on the said day. OK, at least I know now. So, 2 weeks after the original repair day the technician arrives. This is now over a month from the date of the TV failure. Alas, the main board he brought with him does not fit my TV.
So there you have it my journey with Best Buy and the Geek Squad.
NEVER, EVER, buy at Best Buy. Never ever waste your time and money purchasing Geek Squad service. Instead, go to a local EC or CF store, locally owned by normal, local people: you will get normal, traditional, i.e. reliable service. I know it because I went there to do subsequent shopping.
BTW, they will match Best Buy...
Read moreIf I could give these guys a negative star I would. Bought my computer, bought the warranty. I barely use my computer except for billing and work stuff. 5 months later my computer isn't working. I call the main geek squad place and they say "no problem ur covered by the warranty" so I get to my appointment and the guy turns my computer on and says it's an operational error and it's not covered by warranty. But if I want to upgrade my warranty for $200 I can get it fixed. He NEVER did any diagnostics on it which means he hooks it up to a machine (like a car) and sees what's wrong. Which I found out later that the diagnostics we're free with my warranty. So I said I was taking it for a second opinion, where they did the diagnostics and called me to say it was a hardware/hard drive. I called the main geek squad again and explained how displeased I was. They then apologized for the Eau Claire branch and said that they should have did diagnostics right away at no charge. I had my mom take it in because I live a hour away and the main geek squad place told me that would be fine and she would write notes explaining everything so they would know what to do. Once again I had problems with the eau Claire geek squad, my mom got me on the phone and the person would not talk to me over the phone (I have know idea why) but after a very frustrating 30 mins, they took my computer to get diagnostics and needless to say I received a call saying yes it was the hardware/hard drive and it WAS under warranty. If they would have done their job in the first place this would have been a 5 star review. I will never buy another computer from Best Buy, nor will I be dealing with Geek squad from eau...
Read moreI brought my computer in that was having issues restarting itself randomly (which I bought from Best Buy and had help getting it set up by Geek Squad). $70 to look at it. After looking at it for a day, they find no issue, tell me it seems to be working fine and to come get it. When I arrive, an associate hooks it up to a monitor, gets just a black screen. Says the motherboard might be dead and they have to ship it in, $200.
I tell him to get a manager, as I just got a call that it was working fine. After arguing with the manager, they decide to look at it, since they broke it. 2 days later, it turns out that they just had it hooked up to the wrong monitor setting. If I hadn't argued with them, they would have charged me $200 for their incompetence.
The issue with the computer randomly restarting still continues. $70 and 3 days for nothing.
Use a different service, they are the worst computer repair company...
