Hobby Lobby — Local services in Effingham

Horrible place to work. You are never appreciated instead management makes fun of the employees because of mental health problems. Then course the co manager refuses to train anyone anything so it makes her look like only she can do what’s needed. I was hired as pt cashier and worked my way up to full time bookkeeper along with also being department head over 2 departments. They told me I would get a raise for taking on bookkeeping plus my other departments I’d have to keep up on but NEVER GOT ONE. So eventually I went down part time because I wasn’t getting anything for taking on bookkeeping besides yelling etc. in the office that was shared between me and all the managers. I had a corner of a desk to count the register money bags. They went through 5 managers since I was there over 3.5 years. That’s not including all the assistant managers either! They don’t care about you, all they care about is payroll so they can make more money in their bonuses, getting their projects and memos completed. In the end they only accept people’s applications that have open availability if it’s not they don’t even look any further. They only care about how much work they can squeeze out of you in very little time paid. They are supposed to be a Christian store HAHA!!!! Yea right!! They are the exact opposite!!! I returned to Hobby Lobby because I had been overcharged for an item. As I walked in the door I headed for the counter for returns. As I approached it the gentleman put the “register closed sign” up in front of me & sent me to the only other register open right next to him. I got behind the customer at that check out and listened to this same man, chit chat with another employee that walked up. As I was waiting, they changed cashiers on me again with the chit chat. I felt like I wasn’t even there! The gentleman was walking away & was called over to approve my return and asks cashier, “when did she buy it”. I asked if there was a problem. I had my receipt. He then told the cashier to give me back the overpayment but acted so disgusted. Again he walks away & had to be called back again because she needed “his numbers” for the refund. I was visiting Effingham, Ill the first week of March, and decided to visit HL before I left town. My experience was was awesome, the store was immaculate, shelves were full, and selections were numerous. The store Mgr Christie, was very friendly and supportive of her customers and staff. I was impressed that she was "working the floor", as she would have in a self owned business. When the check out line grew too long, immediately a that was taken care of...which was good because I spent $175.00 and tied up the check out for a bit....lol. This was a great experience, one I don't usually find in my home stores....
