Recently had to jump through hoops to enroll my daughter here after we found out she was not only a recipient of the incentive scholarship award through LCCC, but 3 other outside scholarships. One through LHS and 2 through Community Foundation of Lorain. Her only goal was to pursue nursing as a LPN. After speaking to 3 different advisors... she was finally told she needed to take a few prerequisite courses along with STNA. We later recognized the 2 years she spent taking STNA at Lorain High School via Healthcare Tech program does not count as a college credit plus course, and that she needed to re-take the class at the college level to even be considered to apply into the LPN program. One other thing her advisor didn't mentioned that she needed to be certified in CPR. Luckily for my daughter she was... since she was pursuing nursing into the LPN program she would be considered a fast track student. Needless to say after reaching out to Financial aid, countless of times no one was able to help her access her fast track funds. When they did, it was too late. I ended up paying for her books and uniform straight out of my pocket. Since she was enrolled for the fall term her summer term tuition was free. Unfortunately after starting the STNA training... she was told on the second day by her instructor after failing 1 quiz at the time to drop out. When my daughter told me this... I knew something was wrong. So, I encouraged her to stick with it there after my daughter reported that the same instructor kept telling her she should drop the course. Needless to say it messed with my daughters confidence that she decided to withdraw from Lorain County Community College. I get that an instructor will suggest this for academic reason after one week, but on the 2nd day is crazy! I just want to say I am proud of my daughter for standing up for herself. She has found a College that is better suited for the actual program or career she wants to study. Hopefully she gets new instructors that encourages their students rather then...
Read moreI got my first degree assocates was okay. I had to take things that did not relate to what I was going for. I feel they are all about money. I'm in it again for a certificate for medical. The teachers are rude and blaming the students if we don't understand something. They say we are failing to understand and listen. All semester I have been trying and the teachers being rude. Info is was to much to do and the work and just combing too much together. I feel I have made a poor decision. In chosing to take my cerfticate for medical here. I have even had the teacher call me yelling at me when I tried to tell her I felt I was being treated unfair. I had a death in the family at the time. Also recently I keep being told I am the only one if there's a issue like not receiving all three cpr certificates in e-mail and to figure it out myself. Then I found out other in the class had same issue. I am at my witts end in theclass but close to graduating this semester but can't tolerate being treated like this anymore. I'm afraid to go to lccc about the teachers that they will fail me or make it worse for me. I have not been in a situation like this in all my years of...
Read moreLorain County Community College has many degree and certificate programs to choose from. Plan sheets are available throughout the campus. Assessment testing will help you to determine if you are ready. The key for me was to find a plan and stick with it. The atmosphere was nothing like my high school, and I loved it. I found a great job in my field even before graduating. Later, I was able to transfer my entire two-year degree into one of the University Partnership programs. I started as a third-year student, and completed my bachelor's degree while working full-time and raising a family, without having to leave the county. Once I had a goal, counselors, advisors, faculty members, tutors, staff and even fellow students helped me...
