Dr. Frederick Frumin started this practice and you will see in other reviews what a curt, ego-driven pediatrician he is. He rudely sends patients to the ER that don't need to go, and has a pattern of doing this with other patients. He doesn't spend the time with patients to truly determine what a patient needs. Other doctors here are very good that I've seen but the fact he started it and probably makes money off of all visits, I'd advise going elsewhere.
He rudely tells you to go the ER when he doesn't want to deal with your problem. I took my son there after a long day of stomach flu - pretty simple. After spending 30 seconds with us, he told me my son has strep (turned out he did NOT have strep and had no symptoms of it except the positive strep test they did) and that instead of prescribing us anti-nausea medicine (which is all the ER did) so my son could try and drink liquids we would have to go to the ER to get IV fluids (which the ER told me were not necessary and refused to do after waiting there for 4 hours). Apparently he is too scared of lawsuits and doesn't care if his patients have to waste hours of our time/extra money and suffer with symptoms waiting to be seen in the ER. When I asked him if we could try the anti-nausea pill to get fluids in he just bragged how many patients he's seen and how he's never had a problem (i.e. lawsuit).
Dr. Frumin also came into the exam room and scared my son with his very loud humming/singing (very strange) as we don't know him and it startled both of us who are dealing with being sick, not at a well-visit.
His practice also does not offer seating for sick children. I was worried about spreading my son's stomach virus around and the office staff said it's not an issue sit wherever you want and they will call you back (even though there were tons of empty...

Came in with Mom after she had a fall and spent 3 hours in the ER with her. MOST of the staff was great (not Nurse Rached (I think her name is April)) and made supportive efforts. No temperature or other test was required for me to enter the ER.
I went home about 4:30a to get some rest before surgery. Since nobody called, I phoned the ER and was told surgery would be at 11:00a. I returned well before to be with my mother and found I would not be allowed inside the main hospital without a vaccination card or negative test result.
No testing offered at entrance to accommodate Scripps' independent requirement (not required by Kaiser and others) for negative proof in hand. Ignorant desk clerk outside main entrance (10:30a 5/1/22) should not be in front of ANYBODY.
ER Angela said "state policy" to prevent visitors without test results. She was 99% certain rapid-testing is offered at Scripps, Jefferson (Carlsbad location). Renee (M) from Jefferson location said "no," and confirmed with his supervisor.
NO other outfit in the area offers rapid tests on Sundays, without symptoms, or an appointment.
Angela spoke with the Operations Supervisor (f) between 11:30a-12:00p who was unwilling to take my call. She repeatedly stated "there is nothing we can do."
Orthopedic Surgeon (outside contractor) called to review findings and discuss surgery. He claims Mom's break was high on the femur, the 1 hour surgery is an easier "fix," and would be more beneficial should another hip injury take place. He offered to help me get inside if he could.
I've heard good things about Scripps, but it's NOT true. Take a look at all of my other reviews... I'm 100% honest with good details.

Read moreI take it back, the docs are also a mess. It is impossible to refill anything with them in a timely manner. If you request it too early, they won't do anything bc it's too early. They want you to wait until you're almost out but then they're super slow so you do run out. Last time they said they would send some ahead but then they messed up the fill by dates so now we have to short that out. By far the worst doctor's office I've ever been forced by insurance to go to.
Previous review: The Scripps Coastal docs are fine but the back office is a mess. Prescriptions are always sent to the wrong pharmacy, it takes 3-5 messages back and forth to do anything bc no one seems to read the messages. Oh and it takes 24 hours to respond to any messages so it's usually at least a week to get anything done. I have a Blue Shield HMO so I'm stuck with them. It sucks : D
Instead of hiring people respond to these reviews saying "Please contact the office so we can sort this out," Scripps should just hire more people to work in the office. Clearly their people are either untrained or stretched...
