I used to enjoy coming to Marrazzo's Market in Ewing, New Jersey, especially for the delicious desserts like the banana pudding for our family celebrations and gatherings over the years. However, that all changed today after receiving a phone call from my husband, who experienced racial profiling at the very store we've supported as a family.
As he explained what happened, I was both shocked and appalled. He was shopping as usual, going through the aisles and picking up items for our family, when a manâwho turned out to be a security guardâbegan following him from aisle to aisle. Initially, my husband didnât notice. It wasn't until female shopper approached him and said, âYouâre being watched and followed. Keep doing the right thing,â that he became aware of the situation. He then looked up and confirmed he was indeed being followed. Concerned, he approached a supervisor to report what was happening. The response he received was, âWeâve been dealing with theft lately.â To me, that reasoning is unacceptable. Dealing with theft does not justify targeting or treating innocent customers as criminals based on their appearance. Following someone simply because theyâre a Black man is discriminatory and deeply troubling. The frustration, the questions, the anger, the injusticeâthis experience reflects a larger problem. There are more effective and respectful ways to protect a place of business than by racially profiling customers. Every individual, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or background, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
My question to your organization is this: Are you following all of your customers, or only the ones who are Black men? I hope someone at Marrazzo's Market will take accountability for this incident. This wasnât just the mistake of one personâit involved two employees: your security guard and the supervisor who dismissed my husbandâs concerns. I also believe that if store leadership remains silent or takes no action, they, too, are complicit in this injustice. I sincerely hope that meaningful steps will be taken to address and correct this behavior, because without change, the cycle of injustice will...
Read moreWe used to RELY on this store, it was clean, it was well stocked, they were responsive to feedback. It was a dream scenario! But lately, and especially today, Iâve had nothing but problematic encounters with Marrazzoâs. Didnât feel like schlepping all the way across town to pick up a few staples- decided to give them another try. I got in and found about 40% of my list, which is disappointing because nothing I needed was outrageous or otherwise hard to come by. The staff is confused about why you need to know where things are, even when this store is not the most organized store in the area. Stopped by the meat counter and made eye contact with the employee who continued on with their busy work without even a âhelloâ until after two minutes had gone by and I moved on. I finally gave up on hunting down things that closely resembled what I needed, and went to check out. My cashier, quite literally, âEwâ-ed at some of my items out loud. And then promptly ignored me and my attempts at pleasant conversation for the rest of the transaction. Iâm tremendously disappointed. The staff used to be friendly and outgoing, now theyâre simply discourteous bodies filling positions and pressing buttons. And decidedly nothing more. How there are so many five star reviews is beyond me, especially the recent ones. Extra coupons per erroneous star? Sad. Writing this review from the parking lot of Shoprite on Olden, where I know Iâm going to be able to finish my shopping and maybe even have a few seconds of banter with my clerk as they...
Read moreI usually have a great experience at Marrazzo's. The owner who is in the commercial is always nice and respectful. He always greets me with a smile and asks me how I am doing. But today the lady in customer service was extremely rude. She had a lady before and a man on the side. She messed up the lady's lotto tickets. After she rang up the man. While talking about her personal business. I empathize with her. But her focus should be customers. She lost cars, trees fell down etc. The lady in Customer service continued to talk about her personal business after being finished with ringing him up. The lady never acknowledged me. It was as if I did not exist. Finally after about 15 minutes of me waiting she helped me. I said I found the box of Belvita's open and I would like to get change. I also mentioned that I have been waiting a very long time. The lady said to me did I open them. She did not listen to a word I said. I was furious. Because of the horrible customer service skills. I stormed off after. Than I went to Kyle to ring up my groceries. Kyle was very pleasant. The lady in customer service did not tell the man that there are 3 or 4 cashiers avaliable. That could ring up his groceries and gift card. There was little to no line. I WILL NEVER COME BACK. I FEEL SO DISRESPECTED. That is not how you...
