Best in class customer serviceâVolvo Cars of Exeter redefined my expectations of working with a dealership to purchase a car!
Here is the story of one of the best overall consumer experiences I've ever had working with a professional and courteous team :)
I started my search on CarGurus. I wanted a very specific car â a 2018 Cadillac CTS AWD Luxury â and Volvo Cars of Exeter had one in stock.
The Sales Manager Nolan L. reached out within an hour (it was the Saturday of a holiday weekend too). He let me know he saw my email and that the car was still available.
At first, I was a little hesitant. I live in Massachusetts. Volvo of Exeter is in New Hampshire. I thought things like... "What if they don't take me as seriously because it's a used Cadillac and not a Volvo" or "Am I really going to make a purchase of this size without talking to someone face to face?"
Nolan L. treated my inquiry seriously from the jump! On the first call, he walked me through... 1) the car itself e.g. history, specs, etc. 2) he made understanding the process of purchasing a car in New Hampshire and being from Massachusetts easy, 3) he set clear expectations about next steps to purchasing the car.
Next he and I explored my loan options together and discussed the deposit process to take the car off the market by completing a purchase and sales agreement together. Mind you â this is all on the same Saturday â Nolan L. was very prompt in his communication. By Sunday (New Years Eve), we had agreed on a deposit and setting up a date for the test drive.
I'll be honest. It felt a little funny putting a deposit down on a car I'd never seen in person, talking to a person I'd never met. Nolan L. did such a great job hand holding me through the process that it took a lot of that anxiety away (thanks Nolan!).
Nolan then handed me off to Henri D. to complete the purchase process. My wife and I made the drive to New Hampshire with the intent of test driving and finishing the purchase process.
When we arrived, the car was already parked out front, fully gassed up, and ready to go! Henri D. introduced himself, I gave him my license for the test drive, and in less than 10 minutes I was already in the vehicle driving around Exeter (we accidentally went right when we should have gone leftâExeter downtown is really radâcheck it out if you are looking at a car)! Henri D. told us to take as much time as we needed, and he gave us a helpful route that would bring us back to the dealership.
When we got back, Henri D. and Nolan L. had already drawn up all of the necessary paperwork before we arrived! At this point, they handed us off to their business manager Oliver S. He was also fully preparedâthey have a very seamless buying process using a mix of digital tools and inked signatures.
Oliver S. was very helpful and personable. We talked about our common interests while going through the process (he has a really awesome dog!) He prepared all of the paperwork we needed to complete registration in Massachusettsâthis was beyond helpful and clear to follow.
As a product manager, I am constantly judging the smoothness of any experience. I was really impressed at how well coordinated this team of three separate people were. They worked together without causing any friction or wasted time for me as the customer.
From the moment I walked through the door for the test drive, you could feel there was a focused effort to get the deal done. And I do not mean this in the "car salesman" way that I think everyone is trying to avoid in the car buying experience.
They were all about efficiency, customer experience, and helping me have peace of mind while making a large financial commitment. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated this.
I am not joking when I say this experience made my wife and I want a Volvo! She started looking at SUVs almost immediately on the drive home. This team likely won life time customer loyalty by selling a car that wasn't even from their brand.

I recently purchased a 2017 Volvo XC90 and along with being so excited about my new SUV my "buying" experience was a "10" on a scale of 1 to 10! It all begins with my sales and leasing consultant, Chris Lowry, the ultimate sales professional. The 1st time I visited the dealership I told Chris that I genuinely enjoy "the car buying experience" and this was going to be easy as long as he listened to my driving needs and treated me with respect and had a high level of integrity. It was a perfect match. I can't say that about the other two Volvo dealerships I visited while doing my due diligence........but we won't go into that. Chris knew the XC90 and the Volvo brand "like the back of his hand" and when he didn't know the answer he quickly researched the question and got back to me asap. When we found "my XC90" it was a painless experience in negotiating the price and my extended warranty (4 yrs and/or 100,000 miles). What I loved was that Chris handled the entire transaction (including the financing), unlike most dealerships (going back and forth with someone you can't even see) I have dealt with in my life , and when I asked him to put his best foot forward (price, financing, etc), he did and I was impressed and very happy. The entire negotiation "period" lasted less than 5 minutes and the deal was done. I was thrilled. We discussed "the delivery" of the vehicle and i picked it up 3 days later. I was also very pleased that Chris spent about 45 minutes with me going over every detail of my new XC90 (lots of electronics) and also suggested that I keep a notepad in the SUV with questions that would possibly come up while driving my new SUV. I have since spoken with Chris on 3 occasions and I'm becoming an expert in the XC90. In closing, my entire experience with Wentworth Motors, and especially Chris, has been fantastic and I look forward to a long term relationship with them. Volvo always says "Loyalty, Safety and For Life" and I can honestly see why that could begin happening with me.    Read moreJust like to thank all at Volvo Cars for the wonderful service recently. I was on my way to an emergency vet appointment when my 1996 960 Volvo suddenly shut down, all dashboard lights flashing forcing me to immediately come to a halt safely at the roadside's edge. With my hazard lights on I proceeded to notify my husband of the situation and to call for help from Volvo Roadside Assistance, who could not have been more helpful or comforting for the next 2 hours. They told me the coverage for hookup and towing and any overages that may occur. With all the necessary information at hand they walked me through what was to happen with my safety always firsthand, proceeded to call my dealership in Exeter, NH speaking to Mike in Sales to apprise them of the situation and to expect to see my car towed there later in the evening. They called a tow service who also called me to let me know his arrival time and Corey from Al's Automative in Exeter NH arrived at his expected time and carefully hooked my Volvo up securely and safely delivered her to Volvo Cars of Exeter. Volvo Roadside continued to call throughout to make sure I was safe and all was proceeding smoothly. The next day I called Cliff Cote (Service Manager) at the dealership and he was going to assess my disabled vehicle and within just a few hours called with the main fuel pump as the reason, the cost of repair and as always for many many years Cliff at the helm came through for me. I had my most precious vehicle ready to be picked up within 36 hours. The service team at Volvo Cars of Exeter has for over twenty years been professional, honest, respectful and timely in providing me with the most efficient care for a vehicle that has always been there for me keeping me safe and enjoying the excellence of craftsmanship that only a Volvo can do. My sincerest thanks to Cliff and his team and all those at Volvo who understand the quality of a Volvo and its relationship to its owners. Keep up the very fine work.
