Read moreI have learned a great deal about University mall operations and Van Metre management in the last few days. What I have learned is extremely troubling.
Dar'ron Weaver is responsible for cutting my sons bike lock and moving the bike to a storage area last Saturday. Mr. Weaver is not even property manager at the University Mall. He was there as a Van Metre employee on another matter when he took it upon himself to vandalize my bike and sequester it away. He apparently asked no one for permission of his unlawful actions, nor informed anyone after he wrongfully appropriated my property.
Mr. Weaver did not inform the Sentry security guard who came onto shift on Saturday at 6pm of his actions which took place at about 4pm. So when we first discovered his larceny, the security guard could not help us because she had no information about the matter. The security guard told us that she also does not have access to the security tapes so she could not help us figure out who stole the bike.
Nelson Fuentes, current fairfax university mall building engineer has never enforced mall signage in this same manner. He said there is nothing he could do about Mr. Weavers vandalism.
Muhamed Talha, the current Sentry security guard on duty said that Mr. Weaver needs to be retrained and that no one who works at the mall has done anything like this in the past and that bike parking enforcement should not include breaking locks and confiscating property in this manner.
Van Metre administrator Sharon Parkison told me that she is not in a position to make things right. She insists that posted signage on the property gives mall employees the ability to vandalize supposedly improper parked bikes and seize patrons personal property without notice for indefinite periods of time. Therefore, I should just be grateful that my bike will be returned at all and tough luck about the lock being cut and the stress this situation has caused.
After months of emails and phone calls, Van Metre finally made this...
Read moreUniversity Mall just put in new speed bumps. While driving very slow (probably 5 mph) I hit the bottom of my car (twice) on speed bumps (I couldn't imagine what would have happened if I had driven even a little faster over them). I called the property management to let them know about it (left a message and said I didn't need a call back but thought they should be aware). Someone called me back anyway and told me that the speed bumps were fine and that I should probably just drive at an angle over them (I would never think to do that, nor do I think other people would as well and could see scrape marks from other vehicles too). I said that I would probably avoid the shopping center and recommend to others to do the same to avoid vehicle damage (I told her merchants of the shopping center may lose business it should be something they could be concerned with). She then told me that safety conscious people appreciate them having speed bumps so that people won't speed, I said that I have speed bumps all over the place that I never hit the bottom of my car with (a normal sedan, it's not lowered or has low ground clearance). Without actually calling me dumb and being concerned about it for no reason, she definitely implied it. None of the businesses I am associated with professionally (or myself personally) will ever use a Van Metre property for...
