Hello Goggle Family. I truly enjoyed my experience with Retro Fitness in Fairless Hills, PA. I must admit that it is a hike for me to go there, but it is definitely worth every penny. My experience with Retro Fitness began when I was cold calling. I used to be an Aflac Insurance Agent, so I am quite used to this practice. My assignment for that day, since I have my own fitness company, Krystique Personal Fitness LLC and our ministry platform is Fitness After 50, since I am 58 years of age and my gift from my Creator God is the unique ability to dance on a treadmill vigorously to upbeat music. I had a list of gyms, from Goggle, who I decided to call and Retro Fitness was on that list. I always take notes when I cold call. My assignment was to find a gym that would allow me to create a video of me dancing on a treadmill. I am calling the list and the people are saying, put it this way, they are not outright saying no, but it is not a positive response. The common response was that it is a liability issue, if I fell off the treadmill. I assured everyone that I am experienced and that I have been practicing this skill for six years at Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness would not allow me to make a video there, meaning use my tripod and my light, as I use on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays to make my videos from Krystique Personal Fitness and upload them to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and my Youtube Channel. I am live from Planet Fitness on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. When I phoned Retro Fitness, I was talking to someone named Katie and she asked me to call back or leave my name and number and Alexa or Bill would call me back. I explained to Katie what my request was. I called Retro Fitness again and I was not able to catch Bill or Alexa. Finally, after my dental appointment on a Monday, I finally caught up with Alexa. Alexa was so friendly and personable on the phone. We set up an appointment and I went to the appointment and there I met Bill, (the owner) and Alexa, (the GM) I explained my unique skill and asked if I could use their facility to film my live and online workouts. Bill and Alexa were gracious enough to accept me as a Collaborator. I was so excited and I completed my first live video on Monday, December the 20th. I have to get accustomed to their treadmills, as I am used to the ones at Planet Fitness. My video received many views and this is the first of many. I am so excited about my business collaboration with Retro Fitness. I have lots more to say about this dynamite gym and these dynamite people, but I will share more later. I will be filming videos there one day a week....
Read moreEquipment: In-general all the equipment is clean and well maintained. Although, there does tend to be one or two machines broken in the gym at all times. My biggest gripe with the equipment is that the ab area does not stock floor mats and does not have adequate weights to use. As it is quite far from the free-weight section of the gym. It would have been nice to have weights that were dedicated to it.
Staff: The staff is friendly. I have never had an issue with them.
Price: I personally think that more amenities could be offered. I payed $40 a month (and this was on a special offer, my actual plan was more expensive without the offer.) and barely received any more perks than the people who payed the minimum each month. The extra perks mainly included being allowed to use the group training sessions that they held periodically and being able to access their HIIT area of the gym. If I could have gone back to when I first signed up, I would not have chosen this plan.
Hours: This is not a 24/7 gym but the hours are still generous. Although if you get off work at 11pm don't expect to get a workout in until the next morning.
Space: The gym isn't massive and seems to have quite a large amount of members. I have never been in around their busier hours, but on the hours I have been there it has never felt crowded. There have been times I've had to wait for a machine as they in general only have one of each type, but I would not say that any wait was unreasonable for a typical gym.
Why 3 stars? I would have given this gym 4-5 stars easy had it not been for the cancellation process. I have been with this gym for 2+ years. I paid on time every single month. Recently I got a new credit card and my auto pay lapsed. Due to work I will be extremely busy for the next few months, so I decided that since my auto pay lapsed anyways, I'll cancel and then rejoin once I am not so busy. $107.99 is what they charged me. I missed one payment out of 2+ years of payments AND payed it within the month it was due and they charged me almost 3 times what I owed. Not only that, but they charged me an extra annual fee even though they new I was cancelling and was not re-upping my membership.
Recommendation: There are better gyms for less money. Definitely not the worst gym. And you will be content with its offerings should you only want to lift weights and do cardio. But there are gyms that have saunas and pools and are 24/7 that charge the same amount. If it is the closest gym to you, then go for it. But otherwise, find a better gym. Also, don't miss a payment accidentally unless you like paying for a quarter of the year in...
Read moreI've been lifting with Dani (and others) for about 3.5 years now. Dani is an incredible trainer. She adapts to your preferences, pushes you to be your best, encourages you, and is very easy to schedule and work with. I've seen tremendous gains working with her and I look forward to every session.
I've also had the privilege to workout with Bill on occasion, and he is equally as wonderful. He is an owner who truly cares about the gym and it's people. He greets me by name every time I see him and will come over and chat. A+ character. The proof is in the community these two have built.
The community has been amazing. The regulars cheer on my progress, encourage my PR attempts, and make the gym an incredibly safe and welcoming space. All of them that I have interacted with are respectful and courteous.
More proof - the community helps the gym. They actively offer up their skills and time because they care. Ive seen it over and over. You don't do that for just any business.
Make no mistake, this is a heavy lifting gym. That is the culture here. But anyone who wants to lift weights, beginner or advanced, heavy or light, will feel right at home....
