Today there was a direct violation of Americans with disabilities act.
My partner went into the store and a wheelchair after already being denied access elsewhere for a restroom, and was told.. quote unquote. That these restrooms are not accessible to the public.
That they are through a stockroom and thus, I suppose the implication is that someone would take something?, inaccessible to the public.
After finding out this happened, I called and spoke to the manager. I believe her name is Alyssa but I could be wrong. I am also disabled. When we spoke she doubled down on the fact that they do not allow people to go through their stock room.
I asked her why and I also stated, why could you not have politely gone back there and stayed in the stock room while they're in the restroom if you're afraid of theft?
To which I received silence for a moment. Then she said we just don't allow people to use the restroom.
Tell me how this is legal?
Tell me how Dollar general is getting away with this?
How many times have you been told you can't use the restroom at Dollar general?
Or was it just a case of direct discrimination and we need to find a lawyer for that?
We've already filed with the ada. We're starting the whole process. But, this happens in more rural Dollar generals and other corporations than you would ever think to realize.
And put yourself in my partner's position for a moment. You've been denied restroom access and multiple locations. And now you're having to deal with someone doubling down on the fact that they shouldn't have to allow access to their restroom? Or was it.. true...
Read moreWe were welcomed as we entered. The store was very neat and clean. All shelves seemed to be stocked and orderly. We were able to find what we were shopping for except an HDMI cable. At least one employee was moving ab the store stocking and such, she was very friendly and helpful. She informed us that those cables were kept behind the counter just ask the cashier to get what we needed. I think everyone in the store was done shopping at the same time. There was a pretty long line as we approached checkout that wasn't there a few mins ago. Another cashier had opened a second line and everyone was waited on quickly and sufficiently. A lady having trouble with her card ahead of us was instructed what to do nicely and her problem was solved quickly and the line moved on. Once we clarified which length of cable we wished to purchase our merchandise was also neatly and carefully bagged. We were checked out by a very friendly cashier thanked for shopping there and done without any problems. This store location is not the one nearest my home where I usually shop but is larger and has more items. When I do visit this location I am always pleased...
Read moreI guess it depends on which store you go to as to what you are going to find. Like one of the reviews stayed, the one in Spindale has been dirty every time I have been in. Also the one in Church St has some of the same problems. I have asked for help several times in many of the store’s. I will say, the employees can usually point me in the right direction. I have found, however, in all the stores I have been in, if I don’t find what I need on the shelf, my answer will always be “if it’s not there , we are out”.. No offer to help beyond that. The one store that I found that had the most helpful and friendly workers, was the one in Mayo, S.C, . Other than that, getting what I want or need from Dollar General is a...
