Last month I went on a safari booked through the Africa Adventure Company and it was fantastic! They were extremely thorough in their pre-departure pamphlets and e-mails. They included packing lists, recommended vaccines, an extremely detailed itinerary, general advice on where to eat and shop, amounts to tip, what to bring/leave behind, etc. I am logistics-oriented by nature, and they were really on top of it, which put my mind at ease. You can tell they've been doing this for a while. I did have a few trip-specific questions, which they were happy to assist with. Their sales representatives were very prompt and thorough with their e-mail responses.
When we landed, we were greeted by local tour company representatives when possible, who helped us navigate through the airports and customs, which was actually very helpful. The airports in the US and Europe are easy to navigate, but having someone help out in Johannesburg and especially in Tanzania was great. AAC also helpfully made sure that we had accommodations when our layovers were late at night, something I wouldn't have thought to do, but which helped me catch up on much needed sleep.
The safari was absolutely incredible. AAC gave us a few choices for lodging, and we ended up at the Pioneer Camp and Migration Camp in the Serengeti, the Tarangire Treetops in Tarangire, and the Sopa Lodge in the Ngorongoro Crater area. All of them were spectacular and unique. AAC's descriptions were spot on an helped us choose the best ones for our group. AAC also helped us book small side trips at a few of the camps. These included a night game drive (a must if you stay at Treetops since many animals are only active at night), a trip to a Maasai village, checking out the Olduvai Gorge, riding elephants, and more. Booking them individually would be a bit of a pain, but AAC handled it all beforehand.
The safari itself was simply incredible. Our guide was a real professional and we saw over 100 different species of animals. We spent the perfect amount of time in each park and didn't have to worry about the itinerary, how to get from camp to camp, etc. I normally plan my own trips and transportation, but letting AAC do it for me allowed to to fully relax and enjoy every moment of the trip.
TL;DR: Africa Adventure Company will plan a trip of the lifetime for you, choose them and you'll have a great time. I'd give them more than 5...
Read moreThere really aren't enough 5 star recommendations to give or accolades to write about this wonderful company. They were there to help plan the best places to visit and helped us prepare for our flying safari in Kenya. This was my first safari and it was truly perfect for my adult daughter and me. Every aspect from the moment of our arrival was taken care of and the experiences feel almost indescribable but all were top notch! There was breakfast in the bush, sunset/sundowner experiences with other safari enthusiasts, special dinners at each camp and even an optional private outdoor shower on the Sand River across from grazing elephants and giraffes. The accommodations, the food, the people who ran the camps and the guides were all so memorable and we felt catered to every day. Each day after arriving back at the camp from being out seeing all the animals and terrain, we were greeted with moist towels and a cool drink. Before going out there was coffee or juice in the morning too. They were happy to launder anything we had brought along. We were living in luxury and we knew it! Looking over my photographs helps me remember all the moments and the people who made the trip what it was; we definitely want to return. Each camp offered something very different, from the sighting of Mount Kilimanjaro, zebras, elephants, many different birds and, of course lions, hyenas, gazelles, rhinoceros, crocodiles, hippos, and even a feast by the pride after taking down a warthog. We saw nature, up close and personal. There were people who were wildlife photographers, people like us and others who had safaried twenty times at the Maasai Mara camp of Elewana. Be sure that you realize that the cost is well worth it for the "adventure" they will customize for you. Thank you Africa Adventure Company for the memories and your great knowledge, caring in the planning and execution and, of...
Read moreI just returned from a the trip of my lifetime & I always considered myself well traveled. I had very high expectations and the trip that Shelly put together far exceeded those expectations. My trip was a 17 day adventure where every one we encountered was very punctual , professional , pleasant and informative. There was never a moment that I was worried. This was my first trip to Africa and it included Victoria falls , 10 day mobile tented safari with Letka in Botswana & 4 days in Cape town. Cynthia our guide in Victoria falls was so amazing so knowledgeable and had us teary eyed talking about the history of the area. Shaka our guide for 10 days with Letka safari was unbelievably knowledgeable. So many other guides we met had mentored under him. We saw 7 leopards, 29 lions, 18 painted dogs, 2 cheetahs and more birds and animals than I could ever imagine. His crew of life,KK & Comando served us gormet food and always met all our needs with a huge smile. Finally Rob in Cape Town was extremely knowledge and informative. He designed 2perfect days in Cape Town. You should be so proud to have Shelly on your staff. She was truly beyond amazing meeting all our requests down to the smallest detail. She always responded immediately to any emails with an email or call. I will sing your praises to all who are interested in going to Africa. Thank you again ,Pam Ashford trip from...
