Meijer store had really went downhill in the past couple years. Illinois Rd store is increasingly a turn off. Perpetually unstocked items, dirty water refill station that has black mold growing underneath the station near the base, seen this 5 weeks straight in January and February (went elsewhere for water refills since) .. and probably the worst Meijer turnoff for us is how you get to check out your own groceries, unless you want to pick one of the 2 lines that actually have a grocery clerk operating a lane. Yes, this is common even during peak hours. Yet, you'll see Meijer paying employees to stand around as greeters (aka store security) and employees in the evening hours just standing around talking while you are checking all your groceries out because that is your only option. Lastly, the employees who work at the meat deli are almost never friendly and have a grouchy demeanor. They've often caused me to not want to ask for service because so many times in the past they are acting bothered to be helping a customer. Overall, I would not recommend Meijer to anyone unless you are willing to check out your own groceries and don't care much about customer service. However, if the items are stocked and you don't mind the above setbacks, you can score some pretty good deals at times. Maybe that's what is keeping them in...
Read moreUpdated review - Overall a nice store to shop at, but problems persist with their mPerks program, coupons via their app that do not work at the store and frequent overcharge issues. Let me clarify - they have a rewards program similar to Kroger where you scan your mPerks bar code when you check out, and digital coupons are also attached. Coupons often do not process and customer service can not do anything about it. They also have a discount reward system that may or may not work.
I have also had a LOT of problems with self checkout as well as in correct prices at checkout. Once in a while is understandable, and friendly customer service can make a huge difference when that happens, but regular price issues and frequently cranky customer service kills the deal. There is a function on their app for scanning your items as you shop, but the in-store Internet is spotty / sluggish and store employees need to scan a couple items in your "cart" when you check out, which is an issue when they are busy and there is a lack of employees. Not like Sam's Club scan and go, which works great.
I don't stop in here often anymore. The prices are not amazing, higher than WalMart or Kroger, and definitely higher than Aldi (when store brand works for you). The shopping experience of a bright clean store can't fix...
Read moreA store employee was not wearing a face covering on 7.14.20. This young man was speaking and chatting with the store greeter on Illinois road at approximately 8:30 a.m. CostCo requires masks for everyone. Walmart seems to be moving in the same direction. I believe it is careless and irresponsible for anyone in the public to fail to wear a mask, including Meier employees.
Update: 7.15.20.Walmart will require customers to wear face coverings at all of its namesake and Sam’s Club stores, making it the largest retailer to introduce such a policy that has otherwise proven difficult to enforce without state and federal requirements.
The company said the policy will go into effect on Monday to allow time to inform stores and customers. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said that currently about 65% its more than 5,000 stores and clubs are located in areas where there is already some form of government mandate on face coverings.
The retailer also said it will create the role of health ambassador at its Walmart stores and will station them near the entrance to remind customers without masks of its new requirements. These workers, who will be wearing black polo shirts, will receive special training to “help make the process as smooth as possible...
