My wife and I had gone here 3-4 times in the last 30 days and really enjoyed the food. Every time we came the staff and the manager would tell us that if there was anything wrong with the food they would fix it. Until tonight, we'd never needed to take them up on that offer because we enjoyed their food.
Tonight, when my wife's food came she said the chicken was rather dry. My wife eats just about anything and rarely complains about food, so if she felt it was dry, then this was a big deal. I told her that they're always offering to fix stuff so why not just ask them for a second attempt at cooking the chicken.
We got the waitress back to the table and told her the issue. She then argued with us, saying that we were fine with the food at first but now we had taken our time and eaten too much. I looked at my wife's plate and back at the waitress in disbelief. My wife had barely touched her food. The most my wife has ever weighed is 110 pounds. A single restaurant meal is three meals to her. She doesn't eat much, and what she does eat she eats very slowly.
After I chimed in the waitress reluctantly took the food back but then tried to tell my wife what to order to replace it. All she wanted was the chicken from that meal cooked properly. She loved the rice, vegetables, and sauce. The chicken was simply overcooked, that was all.
In the end the waitress made my wife order a completely different meal, made her promise that she would like the new meal before we even ordered it, asked my wife after one bite of the noodles if the meal was good enough, and told her she cannot change her mind anymore. All of this rudeness simply because the chicken was overcooked and we spoke up. You'd think we came in all the time and asked for them to redo our food, but no, we'd never asked them for ANYTHING before.
I tried to speak to the manager/owner to explain that we were being treated very rudely and that our initial complaint was being blown extremely out of proportion but she continued to interrupt me and ultimately I gave up trying to communicate with her at all.
They treated us like we were the pickiest, rudest people that had ever come to their establishment. We have always thanked them for their food, sung their praises, and tipped well. I don't understand how one minor issue like that could earn such disrespect.
Good food is only half the battle. If you insult and offend your customers so blatantly as you did my wife and I this evening word will get around and eventually it's going to hit your wallet. Your restaurant is not even five minutes away from our home, we had hoped to continue eating here weekly. I do not understand why you felt the need to insult and embarrass us over some overcooked chicken after so many good...
Read moreVisited Thai Diner recently on a quest to compare Pad Woon Sen at different places. Unfortunately, I ordered the incorrect dish. I ordered Pad See Ew and I was pleasantly surprised. The dish was flavorful and I enjoyed the sweet soy sauce. The veggies and wide noodles were cooked well and tasted great. The appetizer we ordered, the Panang Gotta was fantastic. The sauce it was served in really brought out all of the flavors. Highly recommended Steam
So I have to admit that I have been visiting Thai Metta much more often than the Thai Diner these days but I had a chance to get a dish from here and I thought I would give it a try. Right out of the gate I like the take-out container a lot better than the Styrofoam container with the food wrapped in aluminum foil (that I know both places use). This was MUCH easier to eat and I didn't have to worry about the foil when I cut up the noodles.
My wife swears by the Beef Salad. She loves this salad and gets it every time she has the chance.
This time I ordered the Ctystal Noodle Pad Thai. I like to avoid the egg or wheat noodles when I can so the bean sprout/clear/glass noodles at the Thai places are the ones I tend to go for. I like the consistency and the taste of the noodles and I like how that soak up the flavor of whatever sauce is used in the dish.
I liked this dish and wouldn't have any problem ordering it again. I thought the flavor was good and the Pad Thai sauce with peanuts complemented the dish well. Overall though the flavor seemed a bit underwhelming. The portion size was great (only ate 1/2 of it) and I would have loved more chicken and veggies in the dish as the portion of noodles was large. I will definitely try something else here with a different sauce. I really like the tangy tamarind sauce over at Thai Metta.
I still think this is true from my previous review: Nice place. Good food. Friendly staff. The chicken Pad Thai was excellent and flavorful.
This time was just carry-out and I wasn't the one that picked it up so I don't have any comments on the atmosphere or...
Read moreThe first time I went, the food was great! The waiter provided subpar service but I still tipped. (4 out of 5 stars experience)
The second time (and the last time for the foreseeable future) turned me off from the place.
The waiter was even worse than the first time, not even providing the most basic services (asking at least once how the food was to make sure it met the restaurant's standard, staying on top of refills). He asks if you want something but forgets to provide it. If he doesn't know about a dish or drink, he will not ask the owner, instead opting to say it is "complicated" (as overheard from the people seated near us).
My food was entirely too spicy (to the point of inedible). I ordered Medium spice the first time (which wasn't spicy for me). The next spice level was Hot (the spiciest being Thai Hot) so I figured I'd go to the next level.
I informed the waiter that I believed somehow my dish was cooked at Thai Hot as my cousin had ordered his dish as Thai Hot. At first, he hesitated to answer and then without consulting anyone (the cook or owner) told us that both dishes were cooked at Hot. He then walked away without asking if I'd like it remade or providing any solutions beyond asking if I wanted a glass of water (which never came).
I can forgive the spicy dish but the waiter really made the experience terrible. I will not be returning until the wait staff is updated. I am saddened as I only frequent the place because the owner used to own one of my favorite asian markets downtown. She is a lovely woman who deserves a better waiter.
EDIT: 2021, the restaurant has new staff and owners. Food is good. I only do carry-out, though, so I cannot comment on dining service.
EDIT: 2022, food portions have halved (for take-out), price has gone up, food quality is okay. Not sure if new owners once again. I...
