Planet Fitness — Local services in Fountain Valley

You know what….I am extremely tired of people who have jobs that require interacting with people and they either completely refuse to interact with people, or they do so in extremely negative or ignorant ways. For example…..I just left the planet fitness here in Fountain Valley. They close at 7 PM. By the way….I signed up for a 24 access gym with access to all of their locations….but now most of them are barely open half that amount. Shouldn’t my membership fees be 50% less? No that’s just crazy lol. Anyway, so 7 o’clock arrives and I take an additional 4-5 minutes getting ready because I had taken a shower. I had to wait a while to get access to it so I took a little longer than I should’ve. The two employees who were there were still doing their side work and we’re not trying to leave the building yet so I wasn’t holding them up at all. Anyway…..when I walked out of the Men’s locker room I see one of the female employees putting away weights and she looks at me. I am immediately make eye contact with her…..smile….and tell her “hey I apologize for taking a little longer, but thank you….I appreciate you being patient”…… and her response was to maintain the emotionless stare at me while I spoke until about halfway through…..at which point she turns her head and turns her body away from me and literally says absolutely nothing. Uhhh ok biatch…..I just wrote it off as maybe she didn’t hear me or is having a bad day. I begin walking towards the exit at the front and the second employee starts running up to the front to unlock the doors to let me out. As I hear him approaching from behind me I turn around make iContact and smile at him. He does not make eye contact with me at all. I also tell him “hey I’m sorry I took a little longer, but I appreciate you being patient thank you very much”. Does anyone wanna guess what his response was? Correctamundo…..He said absolutely nothing and didn’t even make eye contact with me once. Does anyone else find what I described to be seriously agitating and unfortunately more and more common.? These 2 were incredibly adverse to having a normal, competent, or friendly interaction and by doing what they did…..in my opinion…. passive aggressively went out of their way to make me feel unwelcome and unwanted at this business….. and basically told me F U without actually saying it. These 2 employees should’ve had a sign that they wore around their necks that says “does not get along well with others” because that’s exactly the problem I saw. Just in case management reads this and wants to know who these employees were. I’m gonna put the date this happened…..so if by chance they recognize and are not OK with the problem I described maybe they can educate these two idiots. This happened on Saturday, July 29 just after 7 PM closing time…..both of the employees….1 girl and 1 boy didn’t look like they were into working out much….and wore dirty looks like most people wear clothing.

P.S. The men’s locker room in most planet fitness locations is pretty nasty….but this location was seriously disgusting. Shaved body and pubic hair all over the ground in and around the entire shower area. All countertops were not only wet they were absolutely sopping wet with water spilling out all over the ground in these areas making it incredibly slippery. Nasty people with nasty behavior maintaining a nasty planet fitness location. Get rid of these lazy, selfish,...

I came in today 04/15/18 pretty much already decided that I was going to sign up for the 1 year membership. I asked the guy behind the desk to be able to try the place since it was my first time using planet fitness. He said that they do not do that even though I was pretty sure I had read somewhere on their web site that they did offer that.

I then asked if I could take a look around and he said that I couldn't do that either. I asked if he could show me around and he said that he could not do that either since he was the only one there.

So I looked around as much as I could from the front desk area and was about to sign up for the 1 year when he says that I could pay for a day pass for $20 and that would be applied toward the membership if signed up.

Now remember, I was pretty much to get the 1 year membership right there. But with them offering to apply the day pass fee, I had nothing to lose (or at least I thought).

So I pay the $20, do my work out, and then on the way out, stop by the front desk to go ahead and get the 1 year membership. The guy I talked to earlier gave my information to another employee to complete the sign up process.

I show her the receipt and she finishes. I then ask her at the end if the $20 comes off the first two payments and she said that it only covers from today to the billing date of 04/17/18. I explained to her that the other guy told me that it would apply to the membership and she just shrugged and said sorry.

So I go home and of course find it clearly marked on their website that the first workout is free. It is large letters right on the main page for Planet Fitness Fountain Valley (ENJOY A FREE WORK OUT ON US! SPEND A DAY ON OUR PLANET. FREE!)

I go home and the whole thing just bothers me all day because they have now lied to me twice. It was my first impression of this company. So I go ahead and call the location and ask to speak to a manager and an employee named Caesar says he is a manager. I explain the entire story and he tells me that the $20 covers only the start up fee. I explain that the start up fee is only $5 and he basically tells me that there is nothing that he can do. Now think about this. He is a manager of a gym and can not even adjust a $15 fee.

So I might not be able to get my $15 but at least I can let everyone else know about their practices.

You know, it is only $15 but it is really irritating when businesses allow their employees to just make up any kind of nonsense and there is absolutely no consequences for doing this. It seems like a really bad way to do your business and make a few extra dollars.

As a funny side note, when I called the number to the gym the first time, I got their voice mail probably because they were on the phone and it said the mail box was full and could not accept anymore messages. You make your own opinion but everything about this place seems to be about poor...

Today I went to register and take have my picture taken. The one girls working, who I will add is exceptionally respectful was busy assisting a member. The assistant manager “David” stood there engaging in casual conversation for a couple minutes when he finally asked me “I’m sorry, do you need help”? Upon after taking my photo and asking him for a lanyard attachment to check in he David told me “I’m not giving you one”. I’ll mind you my husband , who was the one who signed me up, just received one from the nice girl working the day before. When he explaining this to David he told me “yeah, they weren’t supposed to do that and I’m not gonna give you one”.

After already feeling extremely unwelcome I told him I am going to ask the manager to make sure this is true and explain to them your rude behavior. David told me “ here you set the tone. Welcome to Fountain Valley ! “ I, have always assumed Fountain Valley to be a family oriented friendly community, but I couldn’t help but wonder after this exchange, is the assistant manager at Fountain Valley Planet Fitness Gang related?

I went to look around the gym I just become a new member of when finding out the massage machines need to be turned on by the workers. Upon returning to ask how I could use the equipment David informed me he was going to cancel my membership after I use the massage chairs. That is when I decided to leave the gym and passed on using the massage chairs not only out of feeling insulted but of fear of David’s strange, unprofessional behavior. I couldn’t help but wonder if I was being discriminated at against and if was David’s behavior racially motivated.

When I got home I made the decision I no longer wanted to be a member of Planet Fitness and decided to call to assure David did indeed cancel my membership. This is when he told me “oh I just temporarily blocked you from coming here for breaking company policy”.l and proceeded to hang up the phone. I have contacted the district manager and have attempted am waiting to speak to the Manager Marco Flores as he has yet to be available. If you are looking for a gym to become a member of that is friendly and has professional management DO NOT GO TO PLANET FITNESS IN FOUNTAIN VALLEY while the assistant manager “David” is still employed/if you are African American as you will be highly...
