I was raised around the local culture, and probably due to coming from a somewhat disfunctional family, never felt accepted at church. I'd always thought all churches were pretty much the same ( performance based ) That was until I visited Washington Heights Church for the very first time. It was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before ! The people were very friendly, accepting, non-judgmental, and seemed so genuine ! The Lead Paster ( Roy Gruber ) was nothing short of amazing ! There are some of the most gifted, and knowledgeable people, who donate their time throughout the week to teach various Bible Study Classes, and other Biblical Programs, and Services. Judi Abdulla, a former LDS Convert is a must see to appreciate ! After the first class, I was hooked. The other Pastor, Jimi Pitts, leads Mission Trips, and Serve Projects all over the world. This guy is absolutely incredible ! They offer a Celebrate Recovery Class for people coming out of addiction ( of any kind ) They have amazing children, and youth programs, and services. There is truly something for everyone. There is not enough room in this post, or any words to describe all of the amazing people, and services at this church. You just have to see for yourself. This place started me on the most life changing experience of my life, to which, I am so very grateful ! For the first time in my life, I have a personal relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I strongly encourage everyone who has taken the time to read this post, regardless of your faith, or your past, to try this place one time, you won't be sorry, I...
Read moreI was asked by a musician in the band to come and play with them at WHC. I have a God given talent and felt that I should use it to spiritually inspire. The first time I attended I was very impressed with the kind people who attend regularly. Strangers approached me and said they could feel the spirit radiating from me. I heard the band and thought I was at a concert; it was very professional and spiritually uplifting. I listened to the sermon and was less than inspired. Afterwards, I met the band worship leader who promised he would call me in 2 weeks. I attended and watched services online. I concluded that the lead pastor was obsessed with the Old Testament and did not have a true understanding of the teachings of Jesus. Meanwhile, the band worship leader did not even have the common decency or courtesy to contact me. My friend in the band said he asked the leader if had contacted me 5 times. His response was he was busy, but he promised he would get around to it. Really, a so-called worship leader that cannot take 30 seconds to send a courtesy text? This began last November. It is now midway through June. I have emailed both the lead pastor and the band leader with no response. I also discovered that the band leader is using recorded backing tracks and what are you are hearing is not all live music. Christian? Not as far as I am concerned, and the good people of that church deserve...
Read moreMy husband and I found our way back to church after Charlie’s passing. His life and faith moved so many of us in profound ways. Charlie was a true man of God, called to live boldly and to carry out God’s work.
That’s why it has been so deeply disappointing to see the service these past two Sundays and hear his name go unmentioned—as if his impact, his biblical truth, and his faith didn’t matter. Charlie stood for honoring biblical truth and for being unapologetically bold in Christ. Sadly, I didn’t see either reflected in the silence from the pulpit.
Today is Charlie’s memorial. Every believer should be setting aside time to celebrate his life and his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. I can’t see myself continuing in a church that chooses silence over truth, or that hesitates to acknowledge someone who lived so faithfully.
Charlie embodied being unapologetically bold in faith. His legacy deserves to be remembered and honored for his faith alone. You would expect a Christian church to feel as deeply as Charlie did. Now, I see that they should look to him as an example. Our search will...
