American Discount Building Supplies — Local services in Four Oaks

I am a lifelong Four Oaks resident, along with multiple generations of my family. We have used American Discount for propane fill-ups for years, but never again. Today, December 23, 2022, my husband waited patiently from 11:40am-noon for a fill-up, with one other gentleman waiting in line. Teenagers were helping customers, cheerfully providing customer service. At 12:04pm, with my husband getting the tank out for fuel, the owner abruptly approached to inform that American Builders would be taking lunch from noon-1pm and that my husband would have to return in an hour.

Shocked, as there were no other customers in line and it was nearly freezing temperatures outside, my husband quietly stated that he had been waiting. The owner still declined. While driving away, my husband saw the owner filling the tank of the one other person who was waiting in line, the owner apparently willing to delay his lunch for one, but not my husband. LR Propane on Black Creek Road had no such lunch-hour customer service dilemma. Even with a line of customers, LR Propane quickly filled our tank, with a better price, and with courtesy. I’ve been going there to get my tanks filled for 15 years and everyone has always been awesome to deal with. I moved from that area a couple years ago but continue to go there because the staff is always helpful but this morning I went to get my tanks filled and the owner tells me to come back later. I realize it’s cold and normally wouldn’t have a problem but it just hit me the wrong way. I work close to RDU and go out of my way to do business there. Now I will have to find a new place to fill tanks because I’ll never darken their door again for the way that man turned me away. Staff is very friendly, and store is clean. But twice when I have tried to go to the store on Saturdays they are closed well before their posted hours state. The first time I tried I was at the store around 9 am and they weren’t open. I waited approximately 20 minutes in case they were just running late, no luck. Today I arrived at 11:25 and they were closed and doors completely locked. Yet their sign on their door states open until noon.
