Let me start by saying that this is the second wedding I was asked to stand up in. My first wedding experience with alterations was not a good one, and so I was extremely nervous about alterations this time around. I really wanted to make sure I went to a place who knew what they were doing and was going to help me feel comfortable and love the outcome. The bride for this wedding had suggested Ava’s as that’s where she went for her wedding dress and I requested an appointment online. Ava got back to me so quickly, offering me different time slots for which ever one worked best for me. She scheduled me right away, told me exactly what to bring and what to expect. I was very excited. I walked in and was greeted by the sweetest, best helper in her son. Who was so kind and helped me get set up in room 1 before she came in to start the appointment. I forgot a hair tie, Ofcourse lol but she didn’t bat an eye. She put my hair up with a pencil and immediately started to pin. She asked me what I wanted and how I felt in the dress, taking in my opinion before explaining what she was going to do. I felt so comfortable and it was so quick and efficient and kind. She was finished with in 10 minutes. I have another appointment in a few weeks to do my hem, since I didn’t have my shoes yet, but I can honestly say that I’m excited to go back. And so at ease now. This was truly an amazing experience, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for any type of...
Read moreInitially, I was happy with the alterations by Ava's Alterations for my wedding dress but those were just brief try-ons, actually wearing the wedding dress for the ceremony and reception - completely different story. After paying $700 for alterations, my dress would not stay up - I had to keep pushing my dress up all night long. I have a video of my husband and I dancing and I was pushing it up. One of the guests even made a comment to me about the fact I had to keep pushing it up (embarrassing to say the least). An even bigger disappointment was seeing pictures from guests and you can see the dress sitting away from my chest and you could see the padding that was inside the chest area in several of the pictures I received. They also charge a $100 rush fee if it's less than 10 weeks but they don't tell you that until the end of your 1st fitting. They also told me my dress would be done a week before the wedding - it was not. I went to pick it up and the hem on all the layers still needed to be done. They told me they needed to remeasure because she thought it was too long (mind you, I never even seen this girl before but she "knew without ever seeing me that my dress was too long, yeah okay...). Guess what? It was still too long - I kept stepping on it but maybe that was because the chest area was too loose. I would seriously consider going somewhere else,...
Read moreAva’s Alterations is an amazing daughter-mother-grandmother women-empowered small business. They are caring people who take every effort to make a customer happy. I have seen them do their best to squeeze each and every customer in - knowing that life events may bubble up unexpectedly or understanding that some people postpone alterations from a body image or cost perspective.
I personally used them for my wedding dress. Each and every time, they always strove to present all the options and talk through the pros and cons, and make sure I knew what the next steps were. One time, something by the arm holes felt off, and they walked in and instantly knew what the problem was. Be honest with how you’re feeling - even if you don’t know how to express a concern, they will be able to identify the alteration needed. Their expertise was unparalleled and I honestly wish that they had been there when I picked my dress to talk through ordering the proper size. My dress had to be taken in a decent amount and I wish I had ordered differently.
Thank you so much, Ava’s, for everything you did to make me such a happy bride on my...
