Review for Tea Shop Hair
I recently visited Tea Shop Hair for a starter-loc appointment and, unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Here are the details of my visit:
Timeliness and Attitude: Minutes before my scheduled appointment, the loctician informed me she was running a bit behind and ended up being 35 minutes late. Upon her arrival, she exhibited the worst, non-client-friendly attitude. When I asked if she could twist all of my locs in one direction and inform me which way, she immediately confronted me with a dismissive "why" and insisted that it didn't matter, claiming it was a myth. I needed consistency in the direction of the twists to ensure uniformity across different locticians, but she refused to understand my request. Even after another person at the shop confirmed the importance of twisting in one direction, she continued to belittle my request.
Lack of Clarity and Professionalism: I asked for c-shaped parts, but she said she couldn't do them, which I was fine with since I hadn't asked beforehand. However, she informed me that I should have checked the Instagram page, which was cluttered and unclear about the types of parts she could do. I found one picture of c-shaped locs and asked if she could do it like that, but she said no she didn’t do those either. She then mentioned she could only do a brick pattern, which should be noted on the website to avoid confusion.
Unprofessional Behavior: During the appointment, she kept going back and forth about the parting pattern, which was frustrating. She even told me "you're stressing me out friend," which was an unprofessional response to basic requests. After showing her pictures of the parts I wanted, she took a quick look and said okay, but the parts in the front ended up being uneven and inconsistent. Her rough handling during the coil twist was the worst I've ever experienced, and she failed to detangle my hair properly during the wash.
Lack of Communication and Additional Charges: When I asked about styles she could do, she rudely told me to "Google it." I found only two suitable styles for starter locs (2-strand twists and barrel twists), which she could have easily mentioned. She initially refused to do barrel twists but later agreed reluctantly, then charged me an additional $15 for the style, which was not mentioned upfront. The website lists style under the $120 service, so I felt misled by the additional charge.
Overall Experience: My loc experience was marred by her rude demeanor, invalidation of my requests, and rough handling of my hair. The entire process was filled with negative energy, leaving me disappointed and unsatisfied. I have now decided to fly to an actual loctician to have my hair done correctly in a more positive environment. If I had known what my $135 (paid through CashApp) would get me, I would have stayed home.
Final Note: Please be cautious about where you go for your hair care. This experience has taught me the importance of finding a professional, knowledgeable, and...
Read moreThe service did not match the reviews posted they must all be friends/family. If you are looking for a professional environment this is not the place. My daughters appointment was scheduled for 1:00pm, I was asked to come in around 2:30/2:45 because a client was still in the chair which is completely understandable. I explained my daughter's graduation time and told her we needed to be out the door. I was told that when we walked in she would immediately start on my daughters hair and explain to her other client to please wait. That didn't happen! We patiently waited until after 3pm while she cracked jokes with family, tended to kids, ate McDonald's, yelled at kids...ECT. She finished her family/clients hair which the same client stuck around for a whole hour after her service was done distracting her & talking as well as three other family members. After she started my daughter's hair she stopped several times to get coloring utensils, yell at kids, & finish her McDonald's. I was furious. I'm a great tipper and I would have paid double for a professional...
Read moreTea Shop Hair is bomb! Tiara showed up on time, ready to rock and roll from the moment she stepped through the door. It made me feel like my time was much appreciated. I have locs and after recently changing stylist due to the commute, one can only imagine how excited I was that Tiara was able to come to me! Her set up was just as fast as her break down. During the retwist and styling process, she asked really great questions about what iv been using in my hair, what my hair routine looks like, and I welcomed her advice on how to make it even better. She is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and has an all around great vibe. She works quick (which I needed!) and her attention to detail is unmatched. From my laid baby hairs to my beautiful rope twists styled by Tiara, I will be booking Tea Shop Hair again and will be recommending her to my family and friend that don’t only have locs but natural hair also! Do your hair a favor and book...
