I’m crushed to report that our once favorite restaurant for decades is now hit or miss. I’m hoping this is temporary and they’ll be able to come back.
On the plus side, the sushi is still good as always. You may love this restaurant if you order mostly cold items from the sushi bar. Or if you can learn which hot dishes to order and which to avoid.
It can also be a plus that they have a very diverse menu with Chinese, Thai and some Vietnamese if you’re with kids or people who don’t like sushi. You might never run out of new things to try.
Gordon Ramsay would say too big a menu is bad for a restaurant. Jack of all trades, master of none, as most Pan-Asian restaurants like this so often are.
I liked the tuna cocktail. They’ve always made the latter with a red sauce without mayo to make it pink. It’s just as good that way, but request mayo when ordering if that bothers you.
I can also recommend the Singapore noodles, which seem pretty solid everywhere. The waitress was trying to steer us away from the ramen and the drunken noodles. I didn’t try them to see why, but another reviewer said they were bland and lacking the smoky / grilled flavor.
The (imitation) crabmeat salad appetizer was good, though I thought at first I detected a faint fishy flavor I didn’t love. Worth a try.
Ordering the roast Peking duck was a mistake. Maybe it’s unfair to judge them on this dish. The cut up pieces of duck were then deep fried or something, making the cuts dark and chewy. If you’ve seen pieces of thanksgiving Turkey dry out a day or three later, it was like that. It tasted more like chicken than duck. My companion didn’t like it but I was able to eat it.
The once great seafood chowder appetizer was now also bland and lacking something. It had a faint Thai coconut milk flavor but seemed as if it was made with water and a corn starch roux in place of broth. The pieces of seafood were real but also...
Read moreI will first say I am not a sushi expert. Me and my gf are going to various restaurants that specialize in foreign foods. Our goal is to taste the world and expand our palate. We found this restaurant on Google and went to it. I will admit that I did not look up what is authentic japanese food (primarily bc it was a last minute choice since our filipino restaurant was closed) but I thought it would be more than sushi. The selections they had were the same selections as a regular Chinese carryout (general tso chicken, beef and 🥦, etc.). They did have an extensive sushi menu (2 pages). But since I've never had more than the California roll, I wanted to go all out. I asked the waitress what are the authentic japanese food items, she says sushi. I asked her what does she recommend? She asked if I ever had raw food, I tell her no. But I tell her our story of trying new things. She recommends the California roll 🤨. Ok whatever. I ended up getting the eel/avocado, salmon, and yellowtail sushi rolls. The meal started off with the Miso soup. Very good and flavorful. I ate the whole bowl. I guess (based on the soup) I was expecting burst of flavors to explode in my mouth with the sushi..didn't happen. It was ok...I added soy sauce which gave it some flavor, Wasabi, and ginger. So in the end, the sushi was ok (yellowtail had the most flavor), the service was ok, the facility was nice and clean, the prices were good (paid $12.50 for 3 different kinds & they were 6 bite-sized pieces each) My gf had a bento box with chicken. It came with California roll, pad thai noodles, salad, and rice. The only suggestion I would make is, provide your customers with a mint. Since we're wearing mask now and it goes over our noses, my breath from the food was horrible (I had a mint...

I was in the mood for ramen and I looked up a couple of places as we drove through. Fredericksburg has yet to disappoint me when it comes to stopping through to eat.
We walked into miso and their specials were listed on a whiteboard at the door and then again inside on a chalkboard.
We were seated immediately and asked for a drink order. I inquired about their soups and our server walked us through a few options.
We eventually settled on edamame miso soup, the tonkatsu with chicken and salmon teriyaki. I had to ask for rice as it's normally served with mashed potatoes.
Service was absolutely wonderful. He was very attentive. We just ordered iced teas and water, but as soon as a cup was down to a third he would be over to put the table with a fresh one. The water was served with a cucumber and had a cucumber flavor to it which was very refreshing.
Serving sizes were generous. I was lucky in that my husband shared his food with me and I didn't have to share much back.
The ramen broth was delicious. We ordered mild but it still had a little bit of a kick to it. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the breaded chicken cutlets were fresh and moist.
The salmon teriyaki with vegetables was cooked to tender. The salmon still having its salmon flavor without being overruled by the teriyaki. The vegetables were cooked soft but without losing their texture.
They brought inappropriate box for me to take for remainder of the salmon. Teriyaki home ahead compartments too. Properly hold the food versus one large box. They had options behind the counter so our server brought the best option for us.
Next time, I can't wait to try their sushi offerings. But this time was very...
