We decided to stop by and try Sabor de Mexico for lunch because of the excellent reviews. While heading over, we bumped into someone who raved to us about the meal they had there the day before, so we were quite hopeful going in. We were not disappointed. We decided to try a few tacos and the quesabirria.
Each taco came on a soft and thick handmade corn tortilla (about 1.5 times the thickness of a standard tortilla) and was served with chopped cilantro, chopped onions, and a slice of radish.
Tripas Taco - $4.25 Fried until crispy and crunchy on the outside with some soft tenderness inside. Not strongly seasoned, letting the tripas flavor stand out.
Cabeza Taco - $4.00 Rich, greasy, and full of beef flavor in the best way.
Lengua Taco - $4.25 Excellent tenderness and beef tongue flavor. We liked it so much we ordered another. Our second favorite taco.
Pastor Taco - $4.00 Freshly grilled pineapple chunks elevated the flavorful pork filling. This was our favorite - so good we got another. It’s how I imagine pastor should be at every other place, but they nailed it here.
Quesabirria Plate (3) - $14.00 A great choice for cheese and beef lovers. Heated through quesadilla-style on a flattop for a satisfying melt.
Hibiscus Agua Fresca (Large) - $4.00 Very refreshing for a hot day. On the sweeter side, but full of great flavor.
Highly recommended. Definitely ranks up there with the best tacos...
Read moreFirst time here and it won’t be my last. The food here definitely took me back home to California and my mom’s kitchen. I had a burrito Al pastor and it came with some spice on the meat home made rice and beans and they had a spicy sauce to go with it. This place is definitely authentic. My wife had the sopes and they reminded her of my mom’s sopes. I will definitely be coming back and next time I will get the menudo. I saw some people getting it and it looked delicious. The servers were really kind and attentive. The owner of the restaurant was very kind and wanted our thoughts on the food. I let him know the food is just how my...
Read moreOk, so yes, it does look like a hole in the wall. But I'm not looking for a Michelin star restaurant, I want good Mexican food like you find in Southern California. Service was quick and friendly, our food was prepared timely and was hot and tasty. We ordered chips and guacamole and this is the best guac I have ever found in Northern Virginia! Our meal portions were a good size. Overall, we were very pleased with our visit and will definitely come back soon! Give this...
