2021: I LOVED working with Brown Goldsmiths, and specifically Sue Hughes. I came in with my partner looking to find an engagement ring for her and Sue was amazing. She is so friendly and sweet, she walked us through lots of different options in our budget, and pulled a special blue Spinel gemstone from the back that was GORGEOUS that we ended up using for the ring! In all communication with her, she was incredibly responsive and enthusiastic. I could feel genuine excitement from her about the ring and our engagement and it made the whole process feel so much more special. Finally, my partner and I were nervous about being a LGBTQ couple looking for rings (the wedding industry can be slow to welcome LGBTQ people) and as soon as we got into Brown, we felt immediately welcomed and just like any other couple looking for a ring. That really made a huge difference. Overall, an amazing experience and I'd highly recommend working with Brown Goldsmiths!
Update, from 2022: I'm writing another review because Brown proved how wonderful they are, yet again! I stupidly (in hindsight) picked out my white sapphire engagement ring from another jeweler despite my partner suggesting Brown simply because I liked the design of a ring at another jeweler better. Big mistake. The design was pretty, but within 3 months, the center stone was loose. That jeweler tightened the prongs and still 3 months later, the stone became loose again. Each time, they wanted to charge me for it and blamed me for the loose prongs. I became fed up and perpetually scared of loosing the stone.
I decided to go to Brown since they did such a great job with my partner's ring. I worked with Scott and he was able to look at my ring and figure out exactly what the issue was. He was incredibly knowledgable and kind. He worked with the team at Brown to reconstruct my ring and keep the design I loved, but make it more durable. Essentially, they made the ring the way it should have been made in the first place. He was very straightforward about pricing and was incredibly responsive through email and phone calls. I am so grateful for Scott and the team at Brown for creating an engagement ring that is beautiful and that I feel confident will...
Read moreI have never written a review before, for a product or service, but I am compelled to share my experience with Brown Goldsmiths.
I became engaged in late April 2015 to the man of my dreams, he presented me the ring of my dreams. Everything was perfect...except the ring was a bit too big. In my excitement to get my new ring on my finger to show it off to everyone I know I called around until I found the place with the shortest wait time for ring sizing, one hour on Tuesdays and Fridays. How perfect, I won't be without my ring but an hour! This turned out to be a very bad decision on my part. The ring was sized but subsequently the side diamonds began popping out and the band became very distorted, it had been over-heated when it was sized. I went back to where my fiancé bought the ring, they couldn't help me because they didn't size it. I went back to the place where my ring was sized, they offered me the money back for the sizing ($30) but couldn't fix it.
After about 3 weeks of not being able to wear my ring I decided to bring my ring down to Freeport for the staff at Brown Goldsmiths to take a look at. I will be honest, I was intimidated by all of the beautiful jewelry and thought they would be way out of my price range. They worked with me to find the best solution. I needed an entire new setting for my ring (that's how bad it had been butchered). Not only did they find the most perfect new setting but the cost was very reasonable! My ring was ready before they had promised it would be, just in time for me to show off my beautiful new engagement ring to my friends and family over the 4th of July weekend. When I went down to pick it up and saw it for the first time, I cried. I had no intention of crying, but it was so beautiful and I was so happy to have it back, on my finger where it was meant to be.
Sharon Giroux is wonderful, beyond wonderful! I will be sending my fiancé to Brown for all my future jewelry purchases!
Thank you Brown and all the staff. You all hold a special place in my heart and on my finger!

Read moreI was doing everything I could to find the perfect engagement ring to present to my then girlfriend. (Behave, she said yes). I called all the big names in NYC, tried a few local places, even looked as far as Thailand, but for some reason none of them were getting me any closer to my goal. In all fairness I was pretty specific. I knew that I wanted to spend, the size of stone I was looking for and had design ideas; all I needed was to find the right diamond. Just to give you a little perspective, I wasn't looking for a diamond I would find in a mall jewelry store and you would think, with the amount I was willing to spend, jewelers would be falling all over themselves to find me what I was looking for. Not the case, at least not the case until I walked into Brown Goldsmiths. Now to be clear, I never would have even considered Brown Goldsmiths. Who is Brown Goldsmiths, and in no way am I going to find what I am looking in little ole' Freeport, Maine. Thankfully some good friends of mine, friends with exquisite taste, said search no further, we know a place right here in Freeport you're going to love. Man oh man where they right. With in one week of walking into Browns they had three diamonds shipped in for me to examine and sure enough, the right one was there, and not only did they find the diamond they worked with me, not always so easy to do, to make the setting I designed and improve upon it. I love this place and the people in it. In fact to this day it is still my first choice whenever I want to buy that little something special, or not so little. Stop mucking around, go and check them out. Trust me, you’ll be...
