Two Fat Butchers — Local services in Front Royal

I was coming here from Fredricksbutg Va to purchase meats. Even bought their bundles a few times. Yesterday I was there, got some country sausage and a few other items. While the young lady was slicing my lunch meat, one of the guys came over. Rubbing and wiping his nose with this hand. Then he reached over to grab the zip lock bag to put my lunch meat in. I said excuse me please, I'd rather you not touch my food. He asked why, I then told him what he had done. He walked over to the counter where they other meats are and just stood there. Mind ypu, the sink is right behind him. He never washed his hand. Then reached in and started moving the steaks and other meats around a little. This is not sanitary. They need to monitor the employees and teach them better hygiene. Especially now with Covid spreading rapidly. As for me if and when I visit that store again and he's there, I'll politely move on to...

Really nice small butcher shop , everyone seems nice and friendly, the type of place I used to go to as a kid. They have cuts of beef and pork not commonly found. They also have lard and pork belly ( I took a picture) which is why I drove there.

I would imagine if you asked they could do special cuts or orders I haven't needed to do that yet. It is only my second time visiting this store however it's become clear it is a well-managed well-run place.

I do like smaller stores. It is easier to find products , purchase them and be on your way with staff readily available that can help you if needed.

You can actually call and check on the availability of products. I did call before making the trip to ensure the products I wanted were available... No complicated phone directory someone just answered the phone 😎🙂

Looks like i will be taking my deer back to Madison for butchering. Turned in a big buck killed with a bow shot in the neck. And got back almost half what I usually get back from a smaller deer killed by a 30-06 through the shoulder. Got my meat wrapped in freezer paper and tape. When I usually get heavy duty vacuum sealed bags. I still got good meat from 3 years ago. I really doubt freezer paper can compete with that. And had to pay an additional $30+ for special cuts. That are included in the price in Madison. So basically got way less meat, way less quality packaging. At a way higher price!!! So I have come to the conclusion. That i may have recently moved to Front Royal. But I am still going to have to take my business elsewhere...
