Gabe's — Local services in Fruit Cove

I really wanted to love this new Gabe’s in town—great prices, fun selection—but unfortunately, my experience was completely overshadowed by something I never expected: theft… by an employee.

I accidentally left my wallet at the store (which I take full accountability for), and by the time I got across town and realized, I immediately called the store. I was told it had been found—thank goodness, right?

Wrong.

When I arrived to pick it up, I realized $200 cash had been taken out. Oddly enough, the person left eight dollars behind, which honestly felt more insulting than helpful. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told he was “in a meeting and unavailable”—so I did what any reasonable person would do and contacted the police.

And just like magic… the moment the police got involved, another employee suddenly appeared with my exact amount of missing cash and handed it over. They claimed they “found it outside of the wallet.”

Needless to say, this was not an accident. It was an internal theft, and I was only taken seriously once law enforcement showed up. That’s not the kind of place I feel safe shopping in.

I’m sharing this so others are aware: keep your belongings close at Gabe’s, and if something goes wrong—document everything and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself.

Corporate needs to take this seriously. This wasn’t a simple mistake—it was an employee pocketing a customer’s cash and only returning it under legal pressure.

I went in to look I found a form bathroom Matt I wanted. I needed 2 .When I got to register I was the 3rd person in line. As time went by 3 more people came up to registered so there was 6 of us. The lady in front of me had some returns and wanted to buy stuff. The cashier called for back up. When the back up came up instead of taking care the one next in line she took the person behind me who too had a return of some bathing suites. I stood in between the two. The lady in front of me took her damn time to pay for her goods. Then a 3rd cashier came up and again instead of taking the next in line she took the the person behind the people behind me. I gave up and I left .I did state I'm going to Walmart they treat them...

I miss this Old Time Pottery! Gabes just sucks! The packaged foods are all knock offs and the area is so much smaller, the clothing area is way too big and is just sad looking, the character of Old Time Pottery is gone! I loved to wander through the store and could always find little treasures. That is gone now. Whoever thought this change was a good idea is just not in tune with what the customers want and look for. The only thing Old Time Pottery needed was more...
