I'm writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent shopping experience at Michael's. From the moment we entered the store, the disorganization of the aisles made it difficult to find what we needed, forcing us to sift through merchandise. However, the disarray of the store was overshadowed by the unsettling behavior of the staff. While my wife was looking for an item, I noticed an employee standing in the cross aisle, staring directly at us. After we made eye contact, this employee left, only to return moments later with two other employees. These three individuals then proceeded to follow us throughout the store as we continued to shop. This made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and watched. To add to the negative experience, when we reached the self-checkout area, there were no employees to be found initially. It wasn't until my wife was looking for a coupon code that an employee suddenly appeared and began to instruct us on how to use the self-checkout. This same employee then counted all of our items, bagged them, and even checked our checkout screen. While I appreciate a company's support for any community, the blatant racism we experienced as an interracial couple is absolutely unacceptable. To be followed and scrutinized in this manner simply because of our race is appalling and has left us feeling deeply offended. This experience was far from the enjoyable and welcoming environment I expect from a retail store. I hope that Michael's takes this feedback seriously and addresses the behavior of their staff to ensure that no other customers are subjected to such discriminatory treatment. I will certainly be hesitant to shop at Michael's again...
Read moreI visited this store (store #7766) in Fleming Island today 11/12/2022. I had no issues with the merchandise and their Christmas stuff was great. However, when I went to checkout that was when there was a glaring issue. I was second in line behind one person and there was one person checking out at the register. I watched two cashiers handling the transaction. Come to find out one was being trained. No issue there. The big problem was that I watched as three other Michaels employees stood by the register next to the one being used and just chatted with each other. No one jumped on a register. At this point the line had double in size behind me. Soon after I watched these employees just begin to wander away from the front where the registers were. They ended up going around to the other side behind the line of customers and were just front facing items on shelves. I then watched as another employee (who looked like a Supervisor or Manager) just wandered around after looking at the line. Then, I watched as two completely different employees walked from the back of the store towards the front and simply walked passed all of us in line. Finally, when I got to the register, I asked why no one else was helping. Was there no other employee or manager who could jump on a register to check everyone out instead of us just waiting and waiting in line. She indicated that she was being trained and was not sure about others being able to help. Those two that were actually working were nice and of course were helping, but there were 5 other employees who did NOTHING to help get us customers through the line. I never write reviews because I just don’t care enough to but the manager at the Fleming Island store was just a horrid mean ugliest person ive ever encountered in customer service. They would take back my picture frame because the plastic wrap wasn’t around it… stupidest reason ever. Won’t give me $40 back because of PLASTIC?! But that’s not even why I’m writing this review. This review is being written because of how I was treated after asking for an explanation of why plastic is worth $40… I stated “that’s ridiculous” in which the manager replied “and so are you” like…. I have never in my life been treated like that at any store shopping. I value customer service and I understand there are certain policies that can not be changed BUT there is ALWAYS something you can do for the customer to help them better understand the policy OR just treat them NICELY. I will NEVER shop at Michael’s again. Michaels… HIGHLY recommend you observe this managers attitude and other reviews I’ve seen about her and do something about it because she is causing many lost customers.
