Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience at the Toasted Yolk on Sept 20th. I was in the area and had a couple hours to kill, so I decided to have a late breakfast. I joined the waitlist at 11:24, completely understandably the restaurant was busy on a Saturday morning. I went to visit the restroom while I was waiting and both toilets were unusable. A woman came out of the stall where she had been trying to get a toilet to flush and said "nothing is working" as she waved away the stink. I decided to wait. I was seated at 11:30. 15 minutes later, a server named Heather (I only found out her name because it was on my check) approached my table and greeted my with "something to drink?" in a very annoyed voice. "Okay," I thought, "she is having a bad day" - and I get it, I run a restaurant and I know that weekend brunch can be challenging. So, I smiled and asked for coffee and orange juice. She responded with "do you want cream?" and I answered "Yes please" she left. When she returned with my drinks she asked, " do you want something to eat?" I tried again to be pleasant and asked for the original eggs benedict with the hash brown casserole. She took the order and left. That was the last I saw of her for almost an hour. After 40 minutes, a food runner brought my order. The eggs were poached hard and were cold, while the hashbrown casserole was warm. I ate what I could - no one every came to check to see how my food was, and then sat there waiting for Heather to reappear. Finally after sitting for another 10 minutes with my napkin and and silverware clearly folded on my plate, Heather walked past my table stating, "I'll get your check." I got out my credit card and when she finally appeared with the check I immediately gave her my payment since I wasn't sure when she would return. The only interaction I saw her have with another table was when she loudly asked another table impatiently, "so you want TWO sides???" Heather was apparently annoyed with everyone. When she brought my check back she did say "Have a wonderful day!" - too little too late Heather. Again, I work in the industry, and I understand being busy, but her interactions made it clear that I was annoying her just by being at her table. Normally when I dine by myself, I tip for two people, because I understand that I am occupying a two top, especially during a busy service, but Heather received a 15% tip, (I know its how they make their living - I'm not going to be a terrible person and not tip) and I left. No manager was in sight the entire meal. The entire interaction was unpleasant and based on the experience I had, I cannot recommend...
Read moreHeard good things and had been wanting to try this place but it soon ruined my day. The Place looks nice and staff seems pretty nice for the most part besides the manager who didnât care abo it the complaints at all. Now I see why the place keeps getting reviews for food being cold . Let me start with I have never sent a whole meal back and asked for it all to be taken off ever in my 42 years of life. I donât know if we caught them on a bad day, Iâll start with saying the churro doughnuts were amazing. We knew the food was bad when it hit the table before even tasting it. Biscuits and gravy meal comes on a side plate basically with 2oz of gravy for 2 biscuits lmao two biscuit halfâs had no gravy at all with that ratio and was seriously bland and cold/luke warm not hot. My wifeâs egg Benny was horrible and old the chicken was not fresh fried no matter what they say it was cold and tough and not crispy or freshly fried and probably sat under the heat lamp. The eggs were hard boiled basically not poached. The sausage gravy on it did not look normal it was brown and had started to harden on the egg from sitting under the heat light far too long. It wasnât very busy and still took a longer than average time for these simple menu items. Never in the 25+ years of cooking would I have sent that food out or thought it was ok, Iâd rather eat at maple street or dennys than here, Not to mention I had to tell them to clean the bathrooms as the menâs was nasty and toliets filthy with feces all over. I donât not recommend this place and will not to anyone and will not be back if this is the standard and...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place, especially after the unfortunate failure of predecessor Just a Pinch at this location. The hostesses were charming, the wait staff was cheery and pleasant and our wait times were minimal.
Unfortunately, none of that can redeem a poor breakfast, and my wife and I are posting this while getting over our indigestion from this one. Gotta agree with the previous reviewer: You and family would be better off going to Grumpy's.
Wife got the Toasted Yolk, I got the Brisket Scramble. Food came out barely hot and really not that flavorful. I tasted no brisket at all in my scramble, wife's egg was so runny it might as well have been water, her sausage was rubbery and my cheddar hash casserole was so gluey and brick-like, it could very well have been re-heated.
That's our biggest negative takeaway about the food here: The fresh-off-the grill flavor Grumpy's delivers every time was nowhere near our plates. You can taste the difference quite readily (and smell the difference as well when dining in, as any of you who havr visited Carabba's Orange Park can attest), and unfortunately our dining experience here left us with nothing but that old, undesired feeling of backup of microwaved-from-frozen food burning in our bowels.
I can't account for all the other good reviews of this restaurant, unless all they need are good Mimosas or Bloody Marys to wash the food down. We don't drink, and FWIW even the water here still has that brackish, bleachy flavor Just a Pinch could never get rid of.
For what you pay here, your money is better spent at home or with the...
