As the new game store in town (they opened around November 2014), Gamesville Tabletop has easily become one of the best spots to buy/play games. To preface this, I know this just sounds like an advertisement, but it's not. The store is family owned with 2-3 employees and I'm not one of them, I just absolutely love this place. They have a wide range of excellent board games, Magic the Gathering, Roleplaying games, and events so there's always a reason to come to Gamesville Tabletop. The store has multiple weekly events, including Tuesday/Friday Night Magic, Saturday Pathfinder Society, Sunday Board game Meetup, D&D Club on I think Wednesday, etc. There is never a bad day to come if you're interested.
The staff is super friendly, they greet you when you come in, ask if they can help you, and always answer any questions you may have. I've also noticed that its a very family friendly place. Families, highschool students, college kids, adults the crowd at the store is very diverse. There's even a train table with toys on the side for younger kids.
Anyway, about the store itself, the prices are fair. I've gotten board games there for a better price than other stores in town. I've been able to put in orders for board games that they don't have in stock. The atmosphere is great, it definitely feels like a fun, family owned community store where people just show up to hang out and have fun. The location itself is also really solid, with Publix, Pizza, Chinese, and Jimmy Johns steps away, you could definitely spend an extended period playing games here.
Overall, I'd say Gamesville Tabletop is one of the best new places to check out in Gainesville if you have any interest in board/card/roleplaying games. Even if you're just curious I'd say stop in, you might find...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot a great place for Magic tournaments, at least for outsiders. I came today for their Booster Draft, which was advertised to start at 7:00. I showed up around 6:45 and was told I could put my name down on the list, but that the event would start at 7:30. I said, "OK, Is it cool to put my name down and go get something to eat?" and the guy behind the counter said that was fine, so I wrote my name on the signup sheet. Then I went for food and returned at 7:25 and was told I'd missed the deadline (no deadline had been mentioned) and the draft had already started.
This isn't the first issue I've had here; When I first moved to Gainesville, I contacted them a week before the Ravnica Allegiance prerelease in order to find out if there would be an event, since there was none posted. They created an event after that, which advised people to show up a bit early to register. I arrived early, and was told there'd been a preregistration list, which hadn't been mentioned online or in my messages asking about the event, and that the event was full.
Running a shop is tough, and there are a lot of good reviews here, so maybe I've just been unlucky; but the impression I get is that they've got their own community of Magic players and don't care much to make things accessible to outsiders. I'd recommend going somewhere else for Magic tournaments, or at least calling them ahead if you want to play here. Even if you have assurances about when to show up and have signed up for an event, be ready for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust a small quote from a short googling about Starbucks products that I was inspired for obvious reasons to share:
My wife and I got a bottle each on the way back home from A weekend road trip. Questioned the lack of seal but since the top popped we figured it was sealed. I noticed that the whole column of these in the cooler were missing the plastic safety seal across the top. The line next to it had the plastic safety seal.
Later on the road as I kept on thinking about it, I examined the top of the bottle where the plastic base of the seal would normally be connected to the top, at the lip of the metal lid. I noticed the plastic was cut off in an inconsistent manner, wavy edge as if someone with a razor knife maybe cut it off.
As I think about this, It would be very easy to reseal the vacuum seal on a bottle. Just have a lot of near boiling water and submerge the bottle to the neck for 20 minutes to heat the contents. Put the lid back on. As the contents cool it recreates they vacuum seal.
Iāve had plenty of time to think about this bottle I bought yesterday afternoon because I have been up and down all night with really bad stomach cramps and other flu-like symptoms. š¤¢š¤®Coincidence?
Unsealed Starbucks cold coffee bottles,...
