I first found out about Los Pollos at the GCM Food Fest. Their horchata reminded me of home and I just had to go back and get some more. So my partner and I went. Our experience was not good.
For one, how do you serve horchata at food fest but not have any in store? The answer I got was that they don’t serve horchata daily and they don’t know when they will be getting more product to make it.
So after that, we ordered a half rack of ribs with rice and black beans and a carne asada plate, with 2 cans of soda; in total I paid $30. So when the food came out in 5 minutes, I KNEW it was going to be bad.
The beans were cold, the rice was mush (possibly too much water added), the carne asada looked beaten and barely warm, and the ribs were barely warm. It’s like this food was left in a warmer or something. There was a total of 6-7 customers at the time, so it’s not like they were in a rush?
Now the atmosphere, there was no music playing and it felt awkward. But then the lights started flickering and when someone started to play the music, the lights would flicker and then everything turned off for like 2 seconds. We felt so uncomfortable.
I don’t know what happened with this place but we will not...
Read moreI'd been waiting a long time to try this restaurant, and now that I finally have, I'm not sure it was worth the wait. My main interest was the Peruvian dishes they offer.
The chicken was very good, can't complain about that. The sauces were also mostly great. The green sauce, I think was salsa huacatay, and it was delish. The pinkish sauce is salsa golf and it was also good. The yellow? I don't know what it is and it tastes mainly like ranch dressing. It was also on the papas a la huancaina, so if it's supposed to be huancaina sauce, it's not right.
I can say, after living in Lima for 15 years and eating arroz con pollo from dozens of restaurants (as well as home cooked by my mother in law), the 'Peruvian style' arroz con pollo is most definitely not Peruvian-style, which should be green with cilantro. It was very over flavored with bell pepper, also.
Please don't misunderstand me, the food is not bad. It's just not what I was expecting. I was hoping for something a little more authentic. My mother loves this place, and loves the arroz con pollo, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
The restaurant is clean, the waitstaff were friendly and helpful. The outdoor...
Read moreI wanted to share my experience at Los Pollos Rotisserie & Grill. I’ve believed that this was the best place in Gainesville for food. I’ve come here for years with my family since 2017 to eat their delicious food. But today (06/23/2024) I went and it was disappointing. My family and I ordered our food like usual and my mom ordered a Guava Juice. When the worker got that for her, the boss of the establishment got our drink which was filled up full like it should and emptied a bit from it and put it back in the juice tank where they get it from since it’s made fresh. He told us that in order for it to be filled up completely, we need to pay more which is unbelievable because the drink is already expensive. It is common sense to fill up a drink completely. He didn’t want to fill it back up and we asked for a refund because we believe that what the boss did is disrespectful and a bad image for the establishment. It is not the workers fault, it’s the boss. This is the last time we’ll be eating at Los Pollos. Don’t recommend it. And there was no air conditioning in the establishment which made it...
