I had a pretty bad experience. The work Rahab's Rope is doing is wonderful, and it is impacting literally thousands of lives. By all means volunteer with them! But please be smarter than i was. There is a high level of incompetence in missions businesses which is not tolerated in normal businesses. If you are set up with an organizer who consistently loses your information, gets confused, etc. please ask for another organizer. It's not rude, it's wise. I forget the name of the woman who was 'helping' me, but she gave me false information and booked the worst possible flights for me (impossible to make connections, etc.). When i got stranded in Germany she was of no help. She gave me the wrong contact information for India: false phone numbers and addresses. When i arrived i had no way to contact anyone on the ground. It was a nightmare. It was monsoon season and the internet was down from the storms. i barely had enough money to get a taxi driver to take me from the airport to the area of the city where i knew the house was. Even then it took me nearly a day to find the house and i was alone in the middle of a high-trafficking zone. It was very unsafe. That woman was fired i believe, but a word of advice: expect incompetence and be as smart as you can about traveling. Talk to people on the ground before you go, if possible. Mackie is awesome, if you have any...
Read moreBeautiful shop with great aesthetics and great ethics! I was wandering the square with friends, planning not to spend money, but couldn’t help walking out of there with at least something! I got a small pair of cross earrings, but there were plenty of other things that were tempting. There is a lot of cultural clothing and jewelry and notebooks and bags. There are so many beautiful bright colors everywhere! I would have spent more time in there if I had it.
I absolutely love that the proceeds go towards the fight against human trafficking! It blows my mind how that issue isn’t being talked about or dealt with more, so if I can do anything, even just buying a pair of earrings I like, I’m more than happy to! They also specify that 100% of the profits go towards the cause, as opposed to some places where it’s only a portion, so...
Read moreI’ve shopped at Rahab’s Rope numerous times and it is a place I bring friends from out of town. The store is lovely; filled with high quality items from several countries, much of which is beautifully hand crafted. Proceeds support a great cause - keeping women and children off the streets and providing educational efforts for at risk families. The store reminds me of being in an International market, which I love. I have several items displayed in my home and have gifted others with items, who really liked them The staff is friendly and...
