Alright, maybe I'm being a Karen and am going on a nonsense rant here but, my wife and I along with my daughter and MIL went to the movies tonight to see Beetlejuice (which was awesome). While we stood in line for snacks talking amongst ourselves a lady walked up behind my wife and while putting her hands on her purse, which has backpack straps she was using at the time, she says, "Hi, you don't mind if I look in your purse do you?" And didn't wait for her consent. Now mind you we are standing in line for snacks with about 15 other people. And I don't know who this lady is. I'm assuming she works there but she has no name tag. Rachel goes to take her bag off of her shoulders and the lady says "You don't have to take it off I can open it. Oh your bag is so soft...blah blah blah" trying to be nice while violating my wife's personal space and right to refuse. Rachel takes her bag off anyway and assists her opening it. I now see 'Security' on the back of her shirt and think 'oh I guess she is gonna check everybody.' Nope, she just walks off after searching my wife and I comment "I guess there is no care about the fourth amendment at the theater" loud enough she heard. I know it's a private business and this was legal but damn. Why single us out. We were literally in line to buy snacks so we wouldn't be sneaking in snacks. That would defeat the point.
After a couple minutes I see the same security motioning towards me while talking to another older lady. I decided to go ask "why did you single my wife out and not search anybody else?" She said "there was nobody else to search with large bags. We have to do this for everybody's safety" (My mother in law had a similar sized purse and wasn't checked and I literally have a pocket knife clipped to my pocket side like I always do) I turned around and there are literally three people through the ticket checker to the screens with throw pillows that have zippers on them. If we're so worried about safety wouldn't you at least want to check the weight of them 𤷠I said "but now you're just standing over here complaining about my comment and not checking anybody else. My wife was literally the only person you checked. What do you find threatening about a 5'2 woman standing in line with her family to buy snacks? I've been coming to this theater literally my entire life. 39 years and we've never been searched and that was even after the Aurora shooting. They just didn't allow big bags in and had a person standing at the door to inform everybody" I said, " but don't worry I will give Steve a call on Monday and let him know how I feel about today's treatment "
At this point the small older woman the security guard was talking to introduced herself and said "My name is Kelly and I'm the new GM and I approves of how she did her job. If you don't like it you should leave"
I'm not about to ruin the movie for the people that I love and brought to the movie so we didn't leave. I did make it extremely clear how much I disagree with the way things are changing and I'm in no hurry to go back since that is the new law of the land at the Sequoyah Cinema 9. You need to get metal detectors if you're that worried and check everybody fairly. Which doesn't happen an at the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe paid for 2 movies tonight, 2 of us for each one. The movies were good but I have to say that every time I come here, every employee acts like they hate their job and they donāt want to be there. From the ladies at the ticket counter, to the people behind the concessions counter, to the guy taking the tickets at the hallway entrance. I get it, I used to work retail, and I worked fast food. There are always unpleasant people you have to deal with but not everyone is unpleasant and itās definitely off putting to be treated as if we are all terrible for wanting go see a movie. Between the movies ($33) and two concession visits ($20-30), it wasnāt cheap and I was happy to do it but literally every employee we encountered was lacking in their ability to make customers feel like they are ok to be there. I make it a point to use please and thank you in every interaction I have and made sure to do so tonight. On our second/last trip to the concession stand, I was asked if I wanted my receipt and I said āpleaseā. I then proceeded to stand there while the young lady turned around and started talking to all the others behind the counter. She at one point turned around and I said can I get that receipt and she looked confused and then said I can print you one⦠I said never mind, I was just under the impression that I was getting one when you asked a few moments ago and I responded with please. She just stood there and looked at me, so I said donāt worry about it and I turned around and left. In the second movie, the floor was sticky where we were sitting, like pop or something had been spilled and not mopped. Other than that, the place seemed pretty well kept, which it usually does. I bought a bucket of popcorn and most of it was burnt but I guess thatās the risk of buying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will never go there again. I thought I was watching someone in the process of being pickpocketed, and as I was trying to make sense of the situation I realized the thief was actually a security guard? The couple being assaulted by that security guard were clearly confused and humiliated by that experience, as their body language surely showed. It set the stage for me to already have a bad time and not want to support the place anymore, but then I spoke to the couple about the situation I witnessed and they confirmed that they were just randomly accosted by this individual. There was no announcement or a polite "may I look in your bag" or anything.. they were just literally assaulted by this security guard. They didn't have weapons or outside food or drink. They just had a backpack and that gave the security guard the idea that it was okay to invade that person's space, property, and constitutional rights.
I am absolutely disgusted by what I witnessed there. Of course I came to Google to look at their reviews, and imagine my surprise when I saw all these existing bad reviews specifically referencing this security person. Then, all the other reviews where management responded saying "yeah we know our place sucks, that's why we are under new management now" etc. But apparently their new management is no better than their previous management because this just happened. This isn't a story from months or years ago. This just happened last night.
I won't be going back there again. That's...
