It’s hard bringing a low review to a business with an overall impeccable 5 star reputation, but I think our experience is worth mentioning.
My Fiancé came to State Street and entrusted them with getting a ring for proposal. I’d like to start by saying the worst part of this experience was when it was ready, they merged his contact information with my existing account and ended up calling me when it was done. Hey left a very detailed voicemail with me. It ruined my partner’s plans and because of it being on the Friday of our anniversary weekend, and the fact that I begged my fiancé to come here from a previous jewelry experience I knew exactly what his plans were. We have built a life for twelve years, so anyone can imagine this disappointed goes deep. As a jeweler working with someone set to propose, you had one responsibility and that was double checking the phone number you would be calling for when the ring is ready.
The overall experience prior to their misdial was abhorrent as well. My fiancé was told he would be brought in to view the sapphire before they were set. A lab created and genuine were chosen to order. No call was provided for this and they immediately moved to building the ring without telling him which sapphire was being used. The first sapphire cracked, and I don’t believe that was mentioned until later on in this mess somehow. When my fiancé called them to see if the ring was ready, after being tipped off by me who had been notified of its pick up first, he was asked if he was under any time constraints? I believe the ring wasn’t ACTUALLY ready and they were attempting to reset with the second ordered sapphire at this point. Their question about time constraint was aggravating, as he made it very clear it needed to be done and ready by the 28th and this was being reiterated to them again on the 26th.
When my fiancé came to pick up the ring, there seemed to be disorganization on where it even was. While standing at the counter their jewelers searched drawers by the counter, disappeared in back, and after more searching in drawers it was located. It’s not much to mention but just as an overall experience, it carried the reappearing theme of disorganization.
Post proposal, I brought the ring in for a resize and was told it would be done the next day. This was appreciated, as I was told it’s usually two weeks and I was excited to have it close to me again quickly. I could anticipate a phone call when ready and that never came either, along with some research as to what stone was done prior and if any other specific changes were made to the ring in all the chaos. I had to call them today after 4 days of waiting and was told it was finished. I wonder how long I could have waited before someone figured out it was still sitting in their drawers.
I’m glad to see others experience as stellar, and I hope anyone who comes across this place has a great experience no matter their occasion but I will never recommend given what’s happened. We will be moving our plans for wedding bands and any other jewelry needs elsewhere...
Read moreWe purchased my ring from State Street Jewelers several years ago when we lived in Geneva. We had a wonderful experience with Heather as she personally selected my engagement ring diamond from Antwerp and communicated well with my husband to choose the perfect stone for my ring. However, my most recent experience was very disappointing. We were transferred out of state a couple years ago and return frequently to visit family. A couple days before Christmas in 2023 we stopped in to have my ring cleaned at State Street jewelers. The employee at State Street took my ring to the jeweler and after examining my ring said that a prong on the main stone needed repair and repairs were needed on the channel setting of the wedding band. They quoted us over $500 in repairs on my ring. We decided to wait to get it repaired until we got home since we were leaving in a few days. We planned to go to our now local jeweler we have been using and trust for the past seven years. My ring was carefully examined by our jeweler when we brought it in for repairs, and they assured us after a thorough examination that there is nothing wrong with my band or the prongs on my stone. They said NO REPAIRS were necessary at all on my ring. State Street has a history of being a wonderful, trusted jeweler In the Geneva and Tri-City community. I suggest getting a second opinion If you are doing repairs with them. I am extremely disappointed as I was so excited to come back in there after being away for a while. I believed them when they said my ring needed repairs. Had we not been leaving in a couple days I probably would’ve left my ring with them to do the “repairs” they said that I needed. Be careful and always get a second opinion! You may want to shop around before buying with State Street. It seems like they’ve changed since we purchased with...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of State Street Jewelers since I moved here in 2021, along with my parents and siblings. I purchased my wedding band from them and have consistently brought my engagement ring (a white gold, diamond-encrusted band) in for maintenance. Over the years, I’ve experienced multiple issues with repairs—always met with excuses that seemed circumstantial at the time. But now, I’m fed up.
If you look at the photo with the circled stones—no, those aren’t missing diamonds. They’re so deeply embedded into the metal and misaligned that they look missing. That’s just one example of their poor craftsmanship.
I have lost several diamonds from my ring, almost always within one to four months after a repair (see the other two photos of the three missing again), despite paying extra to have the prongs “improved.” Each time, I was told it must be from washing dishes or showering with it on. I NEVER do that. I’m extremely careful with my ring, especially because I kept losing stones. Yet, after paying for multiple replacements and supposed prong fixes, I recently needed a simple resize.
When I picked it up two weeks later, it was too small. They corrected the mistake, but instead of offering any discount or acknowledging the unnecessary stress on the ring’s integrity, they gave me a BOGO coupon for a glass of champagne at a local restaurant—as if that somehow makes up for years of expensive, faulty repairs I was repeatedly assured would fix the issues.
At this point, after spending so much money on repairs and preventive measures, I can no longer trust State Street with my jewelry. Their lack of accountability and consistently subpar workmanship have completely eroded my confidence in them. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone who values quality craftsmanship and...
