This was our first time here! We were hoping to get a pizza but slices are only available earlier in the day. We ordered a full pie for the two of us and have no regret!! We highly recommend this place! It’s fun, fast, the food is very delicious and well presented. The restaurant is small and lively- but it could accommodate a large group in a long table, which will watch where the pizzas are made! We ordered the funky Cesar, which has a new twist on the dressing. It is a miso. I was hesitant, but it was delicious. It was not too creamy. It was not too fishy. It w was not too salty.- all the things I hate about Caesar salads was avoided with this amazing funky, Cesar! Try for yourself! Haley was our server ! She enthusiastic about the pizzas! We were a little concerned about the hot honey, so she gave us that on the side. We loved our pizza! Their pies offer a good twist on classic recipes.! You can’t get this anywhere else- you need to try it!! Since we were in for a full pizza, we accompanied with a bottle of Chiante, which we could cork and carry Haley was our server. She was super sweet accommodating great recommendations she made us feel comfortable! She was also highly recommended by the table next to us- it was also their first time and they raved about the pizzas. So, if you are rained out of a Cougars game like we were- or just out and about in Geneva- or want to travel for a unique delicious pizza pie- stop in and have a...
Read moreI'm writing this review after having only a slice at Nemec's. Before I start, I am NOT family, nor am I a friend of the family. I'm just a pizza lover who's lived in Chicagoland for almost 30 years, and have tasted pizza in New York, and Rome, and Naples.
I stopped by at lunch time, shortly after 12:00 opening. Ordered a slice. Pepperoni. The beautiful, cupping kind, I could see through the glass.
I had read on the website some of the special touches. Olive oil infused with garlic and rosemary. Flaked salt sprinkled over the finished product. Attention to detail, that says. But does that mean good pizza?
It does. It's New York pizza (my slice anyway - there are other styles), somehow elevated. The crust is even thinner, and super crispy (no need to fold this slice to fight gravity). The sauce - perfect. The cheese - chewy, salty, neither too much nor to little. I could taste the infused olive oil, and the flaked salt was there - and a perfect finishing touch. Fresh basil leaves on top. Somehow light and decadent at the same time.
I've been eating pizza for more decades than I care to admit. I'm rarely surprised anymore. I told my wife when I got home that I may have just had the best slice of pizza I've ever had.
Yeah, give Nemec...
Read moreWhile the pizza is very good, there are things that will keep us from coming back. 1. Don’t serve cans of pop! This isn’t a hot dog cart. You have $28 pizzas for F-sake. Serve glasses with fountain sodas with ice. Ugh. 2. It’s a new place, yet the inside seemed dingy. A little sloppy and unkempt. Need to work on that. 3. Service was apathetic and slow, even though the place was almost empty (we were there in the middle of dinner time range). The server forgot to bring us our drink order (Cokes, which we didn’t know until we got them they were the aforementioned cans, ugh), and didn’t at all seem interested in “service”. Ultimately, I’m not sure this is truly “New York Style” pizza, having had it in New York City many times- but it is good, tasty local pizza on a nice, flavorful, floppy crust. But there is a lot of quality competition all around and the atmosphere, service, and other items also should be seriously considered if a restaurant wants to be more than a...
