Wiregrass Medical Center — Local services in Geneva

I direct admitted from a local doc who also oversaw my entire care though my 2 day stay. So no hospitalist, local MD who, like the rest of the local MDs, takes on responsibility of all their patients here in Geneva when one of their own is admitted. That is unheard of in modern medicine and very much a lost art. Can’t say enough about my excellent care here. There’s no need to go out of town to a hospital where you are just a number. Get taken care of here at home. If there’s need to have a higher medical level of care with a specialist they have full knowledge ti understand when that’s appropriate and full capability/connections to transfer you out. Nursing staff is a great mix of seasoned nurses and home grown new grads who have great relationships and trust with the Docs and the community. The MDs here are incredibly knowledgeable and great at spending time explaining there thought process. Dr Simmons Jr. was my MD and was a 10/10. His dad was my doctor from the time I was 1 and they broth oversee both of our kids medical needs since birth. You aren’t going to go out of town to find better personalized care than at this place. As far as having a quality hospital experience I do not see how anyone could say going to an out of town hospital where your just a number and do not have specialized care by a local doc would be a better option. I went to the ER own 1212/2022 be cause I was running fever Saturday & Sunday . Went to the ER were the nurse checked my temperature and blood pressure and my O2 she was very nice ! I waited about 30 minutes be for physician came in asked me what . Was going own I told DOCTOR I was achy , feverish coughing tried asked do I need to . Be checked for flu , and Covid DOCTOR SAID NO 3 TIMES I ASKED 3 TIMES DOCTOR SAID NO ! SAID WHAT EVER I HAVE I AM OWN THE TAIL END OF IT! Gave me a prescription for the cough that was not covered by my insurance medication cost $90.00 still did not know what was wrong ? I had a feeling something was not right called my doctor office asked for ASAP appointment and tested positive for COVID ! I went back to the ER to let them know I was misdiagnose or not diagnosed ! Some one from the administration office called me own 12/12/2022 ! ASSURED ME SHE WAS DOING A INVESTIGATON SAID SHE WOULD CALL ME OWN TUESDAY 12/13/2022 .. Have not heard back from her we all are human and make mistakes, it makes you wonder what else have you misdiagnosed ! I have called my insurance company and told them not to pay the bill for what no labs no x-ray I do no not think so ! And you wonder why people drive 40 minutes out the way! My mother (84 yrs young) recently had a medical emergency and required ambulance service to the hospital. I have only heard terrible things about Wiregrass Medical Center and I usually choose Enterprise for her care. I live in South Carolina but the decision was made to take her to Wiregrass. I wasn't happy about the decision but there wasn't anything I could do at this point, I had a 7 hour trip ahead of me. Within probably an hour after I arrived I knew my Mom was in caring hands. We could not have asked for better medical personnel to treat her. We were in the ER a little over a day and they gave her a private room in the ER so she could rest better while they treated her and we waited for admission to get her room ready. After getting her room on the 600 wing she continued to receive EXCELLENT care. The nurses all took time out of their busy schedules to talk with her. We never felt they were rushing to get in and get out. Such sweet, caring and loving people from the doctor's to housekeeping. After 6 1/2 days my Mom is home and on the mend. I am so thankful to all of them because this could have gone another direction. Just give them a chance and remember they work 12 hour shifts so grace is always a good place to start.
