Very bizarre experience. After reading the reviews for this company, I've noticed some similarities between my experience and others.
On estatesales.org they go by Estate Auctioneers, not Gilroy City Auction.
I met Richie and he's....intense. I went to a liquidation of theirs in San Jose a few days ago. I was there for over an hour before I met the guy in charge. He would only accept cash, didn't accept any other form of payment, and tried to overcharge me for some books. He wanted about 80$ for some secondhand weathered mass printed books. I was surprised because the website said it was an "emergency liquidation" and "everything leftover will go to the dump". Their website also said "FREE past noon", which is not uncommon in these types of situations. I've been to enough estate sales to know it's pretty shady to say things are free then charge ridiculous prices when people show up. I left the books and drove away without buying. When I called their number to explain to somebody that this is false advertising, Richie told me I could just have them for free. Suddenly they're not worth that 80 anymore? I came all the way back and took them, but I don't think I'll be coming to any more auctions from this company.
I also feel it's unprofessional to have movers boxing things up around the house as people are shopping. Lots that had been sold weren't marked, and I wasted a fair amount of time looking through things that weren't for sale.
No signs, no AC, no name tags so customers can ask who to get prices from.
Really shady, I won't be going to their sales again.
EDIT: So I'm being accused of stealing? Again, the website said FREE. And I never once saw Richie before seeing him outside. Never once. I asked multiple people where to find somebody in charge and they all pointed me in different directions.
Also, I never said I didn't have money. I said I didn't have CASH. I asked if he instead had PayPal, venmo, or cash app. He said no to all of those. He said CASH ONLY. I went into my car to see if there was any cash in my center console and all I had was a 5$ bill, which I gave to him after I came all the way back after he confirmed I could indeed have the books for free as originally advertised.
When I realized I did not have the cash I immediately unloaded all of the books back into the box and left. Never once did I try to steal. Shame on Richie for trying to spin this into a BS accusation.
As for my "mannerisms" I had a man in my face who suddenly wanted an exorbitant amount of money that was practically monetarily worthless. Pardon me if I was a little UNCOMFORTABLE.
Good attempt at manipulating the story to make me look like a thief though.
You are the only shady person here Richie.
EDIT 2:
I just got off the phone with Richie (where he hung up on me). He blatantly accused me of stealing and demanded I take down my review. I told him if I'm really a thief he should file a police report. His response: "why would I do that." If I were really the thief he claims I am, why would he INVITE ME BACK to pick up the books for free as originally advertised???
I think that's what this is all about. He's mad about the review and wants me to take it down. I called him out and now he's panicking. A man who only accepts cash, doesn't' communicate with people, get's disrespectful when called out, doesn't deliver on what was purchased (per the other reviews I've read here and on yelp), and runs a terribly unorganized business.
I have a feeling he's going to complain to google or yelp to get the bad reviews taken down. How shameful.
I've filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. People should steer clear of...
Read moreI won a bid online, and arrived at an Estate to find Richie and a work friend wrapping up work on the house. They encouraged me to look around the home even though I was just there to pick up a single lot.
They never made me feel rushed as I spent time even past the allotted pick up hours! I made a pile of items and Richie gave a fair estimate. Leaving with all the cool things I found, I had forgotten the item I was there to pick up in the first place! Richie promptly called, and waited for me to come pick up the item while I made a U-turn.
I’d also like to mention that Richie personally, politely, and promptly sent me the invoice after the automated system failed to send it to me in the first place.
I can’t imagine Richie ever being anything less than communicative and accommodating; He was super friendly!
I’ll try to make it to more future sales!
P.S. And Richie covered $9 when I didn’t have enough cash! Next sale I can come to he’s got $9...
Read moreIt pains me to even assign one star. Rick was not at all organized, nor forthcoming, nor ethical in his interactions. PLEASE READ YOUR CONTRACT VERY CAREFULLY -- if you can even call it that!! We were charged an additional 10% increase in commissions without notification until payout due to "removal of products". We removed two items that were sentimental in value to our family with about 5,000 products sold, including many large pieces of furniture. He entered the property illegally through an open back door on one occasion. Wished I called the police for breaking and entering. Such a complete jerk whom I look forward to taking to court someday. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE AT ALL COSTS
As a response to the company feedback--I am co-trustee on the family Trust and the primary Executor. Looking forward to our court date to recoup the thousands of dollars essentially...
