They have some really awesome pieces and everything is reasonably priced, all for a good cause. Sales on Wednesdays are also great. I would give the store 4 stars based on these things alone.
HOWEVER, and this is a big caveat, the fact of one fitting room (not unusual in a store like this) and, most importantly, the rudeness of the fitting room attendant led to an extremely unpleasant experience for me when trying on clothes, where I felt completely disrespected and left the store almost in tears. The manager was incredibly nice and tried to make up for it, but the combination of bad customer service by the volunteer fitting room attendant and fellow customers’ rudeness around the fitting room give me pause about going back. In a store that situates itself as a slightly higher end resale shop, it is imperative that this kind of thing be evaluated so that all customers can leave having had a meaningful and respectful shopping experience. Implement a culture of etiquette around using the fitting room and training in that culture of etiquette. Put signs up. Make sure volunteers know that they cannot treat any customer with disrespect, even if other customers are goading them on. And establish rules around the fitting room so something like what happened to me is never allowed to happen again.
I appreciate the owner's response below and hope that if and when I am able to return, these issues will have...
Read moreI used to be an excellent customer of the Treasure House. I spent a great deal of money here. About a year and a half ago I stopped shopping here due to the strangest customer service I have ever encountered. A friend insisted I give them a try since their remodel. So I did and I purchased over $100.00 worth of stuff. The following day I discovered that I was overcharged by $20. So I returned to the store right away. When I asked for a credit card refund, the store manager, Marge, told me she doesn't know how to do that, and that I should return the same day between 3:00 - 4:00 because Ms. so and so would be there and she could give me the refund. Are you kidding!? My schedule did not allow me to return that day and I understand that Ms. so and so will be leaving for vacation in a day. So I'm supposed to chase after these people?...
Read moreThis store went from 5-star to 1-star because of their newer outlandish pricing strategy. They now attach printouts of what an item is listed for online and price it accordingly. There was a very small side table today priced at $200!! Whoever is pricing these items needs to understand that just because someone on eBay or Etsy is asking $x does not mean that is what it is worth. Also, online prices are higher because the market is the entire world. You don't even have an interactive website! Your market is Glen Ellyn and the surrounding suburbs. You are a THRIFT STORE for a non-profit, not a for-profit department store or even a consignment store. This makes me not even want to support the Metropolitan Family Shelter anymore because this is such a poor representation of their...
