The GM here owes me an apology. Separately, always smells super weird 🤢 like someone puked and it wasn’t properly cleaned. That’s more of a side-comment but worth noting if you’re a family or trying to eat food. I have a visual defect and was kind enough to not point it out in public last night to the GM and shame him in person. I danced around it but he was too dim to pick up on what I was alluding to. “Sir, why do the way my eyes look have anything to do with you serving me?”. I could tell the bouncer caught on at some point that I ALWAYS look this way, and what a ridiculous thing to say to someone because you’re under resourced and jumping to conclusions. Apparently he didn’t like the way “my eyes look” and told me I must be too intoxicated last night (after I’d already spent quite a bit of money, very convenient, buying drinks for friends and waters for myself). I had one pickle back shot (that was all) bought for a neighbor I haven’t seen (or his son rather, since childhood). I mostly ordered it for a muscle cramp I was trying to get rid of after a long workout in the heat earlier, and politely, to treat the out of towners - I gave away my drink a friend bought to the woman behind me cause the bartender made it wrong and it was pretty bad anyway. If I bring my mom here with a speech impediment will you also say she’s too drunk and slurring her words, instead of considering she was just born that way? Honestly, I have so many thoughts about how I was treated here last night that don’t deserve the light of day, I’m a private person, so me even leaving this review says a lot. If you’re new to Glen Ellyn or have lived here for years, avoid this place, go watch the game at Sante Fe or literally any other bar (Ellyn’s is always great). don’t spend your hard earned $’s on bad food and poor service. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve blown hundreds ($3-400 at my brothers 40th here to surprise him) and just had an exceptionally rude waitress. I’ve never understood it because I was also a waitress and worked in fine dining to pay for college, why in the world would you insult people who are in your establishment spending money unless you REALLY don’t want them to come back? Owner I hope you read these reviews. Customers please go anywhere else where you won’t be judged for looking disabled. The real irony of the night was making friends and how baffled the staff inside was that “such a drunk” proceeded to make friends with 1998 alumni outside your bar (not my class btw) because you kicked out someone well-mannered, sociable, and actually NOT drunk (um I just look this way, sorry not sorry). How embarrassing for you, honestly I’m out of words. have you ever been anywhere else in the world to see how crazy this behavior is, to pick on a girl because you’d actually like to cut off a guy who’s with them? It’s very bizarre. This bar is exceptional but not in a good way. Our friends came as far away as Michigan and Belfast Ireland, I’m definitely not going to take the risk again in the future that I’ll be treated well here, and bring back friends for another event. It’s just bananas insulting and mediocre service/food and pretty consistently mean staff (they seem angry that you’re even there which is a little disarming, why are you in business if you’re angry before I’ve even sat down? lol all around this bar always has weird vibes). Every time, I leave with a sour taste in my mouth and for those of us who are down to earth, normal, and make a good living, this is just too much stress for a night out. Not worth the strangely clicky people and...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by this place. My friends and I had just finished doing an escape room on a Sunday morning and wanted some food. We arrived here around 11:30am and it was not crowded. As the noon hour approached it did fill up with people but not terrible. There was also an Illini basketball game showing so it was probably busier than usual.
Part of the reason (really the main reason) for a 4/5 was our waitress. She was slow and it took her about 15 minutes to finally take our order. After we got our drinks, when she finally came back over, her line was "oh , did you want to order some food?" I get this is a bar/grill but it was as if she assumed we were only there for drinks. I will say this thinking about it now. This bar is in an obviously highly affluent area of the chicago suburbs. Two of my friends were dressed a bit on the grungier side and I just had on a t-shirt and jeans. I didn't even think about this at first but as we were leaving I looked around and most people were in their polos and pull overs. I'm not saying this was the reason for us not getting great service but it did seem to factor in.
Our waitress was inattentive allowing my lemonade to sit empty for 10 minutes. It took longer than normal to get her back to our table for the check and to get to go boxes.
The food was amazing though. Probably the most amount of fries in a meal that I have had in a long time. The menu though is another tick off the star review. You have to scan a QR code and look at it on your phone. Maybe this is lingering covid ideas but I dislike that greatly. If I'm going to pay the high prices for your food; give me a damn physical menu.
There was a little arcade area in the back with a Simpsons pinball machine, a golden tee game and another multicade. Good fun. Overall I would go back for the food, but when we walked outside (it was a warm sunny day) it was just picture perfect rich white suburbia. Just something to keep in mind, not a reason...
Read moreMy family has been loyal customers of Main Street Pub in Glen Ellyn for nearly 8 years, visiting multiple times a month—probably close to 100 times total. Unfortunately, tonight’s experience was extremely disappointing and has made us reconsider returning anytime soon.
We arrived as a party of 5, including a small child, but were told we couldn’t pull up an extra seat at a table for 4 due to the need to prioritize pathways for servers. While we understand the importance of maintaining space, it was frustrating to see other groups allowed to do the same without issue. Even more aggravating, a group at a table for 6 stood in the server’s path rather than using their table for much of their visit, which contradicted the reasoning given to us.
What really stood out, though, was the lack of hospitality. The person seated behind the hostess table had an attitude and demeanor that made it clear she wasn’t interested in helping us. A little effort and care could have gone a long way in addressing our concerns and retaining our business, but that was sorely lacking tonight.
As loyal patrons, this experience was deeply disappointing. While we’ve always enjoyed this place in the past, it’s hard to say if we’ll be back...
