So after I was mansplained by the waiter on how to order, after telling him we get it, I didn’t feel so welcome here. I then asked the waiter to course our food for us so he could just handle it correctly. Every dish came out at the same time within 3 minutes of our order. Seriously. We arrived at 6:34 and we paid at 7:02. I have not been able to get food that fast at a fast food restaurant! So service sucks (No stars given for service).
Unfortunately, the food tasted as if it was made in seconds. The highlight was the spicy and tasty bean dip that comes out with the chips. We ordered the tacos, which come with four. No mixing and matching. As our waiter mansplained, if you want to mix and match you need more people to order more tacos at 4 per order. So we had the barbacoa tacos- 4 of them. The meat was nicely seasoned but way too much cabbage on top. Also, the cabbage was unseasoned- not so tasty. The corn was cooked nicely, but the flavor was off. It needed to be balanced better, mostly just had a sour taste. They had chilaquiles on the menu. This is my favorite! I always order it if it is on a menu. The chicken was dry. Too much verde sauce and it was spicy (I like spicy- but there was no indication from our waiter or the menu it’s spicy) so my dining guest couldn’t eat it. Also, they used some precooked corn strips on place of homemade tortilla chips. Boo. They weren’t good, I scraped all the meat and sauce off the chips. Overall we left more than half our meal on the plate.
Certainly not worth a trip out here from the city or burbs; you can find way better closer. If your out in the DuPage, you may love this place. I found the Naperville restaurant by the same group a way better experience than this one. I don’t plan to return.
Also, a note to the restaurant group: Train your waitstaff better. Your waiter treated our table like a bunch of idiots who’d never eaten out before. We had a professional pastry chef at the table as well as a...
Read moreSaw this place on Chicago’s best and it looked very tasty so we decided to come here a while back. This was the most disappointing restaurant I’ve ever been to all around. The bad experience started as soon as we got there. We were told to give them our phone number and that they would call us when our table was ready and that it would take about 30-45 minutes which we were ok with. Over an hour passed by and we started to get a bit frustrated so we walked back in to see if our table was almost ready. We walked in and saw a good amount of tables empty and thought to ourselves why haven’t they called us yet? There’s plenty of tables available! We mentioned it to the hostess and we were seated right away after we brought it up to her. Who knows how much longer we would have waited if we didn’t walk in and complained! I wish the food would have made up for the bad service by the Hostess but that wasn’t the case because it was absolutely the worst tacos my girlfriend and I have ever had hands down! The tacos were the size of dumplings and they are over priced. Not only were they small but they also didn’t taste that good either, the tacos were mainly just drenched in lime and couldn’t taste much else. I Live in the Heart of Chicago and I know what authentic Mexican Tacos taste like and I’m telling you A Toda Madre is no where close to being Mexican style tacos! If you want actual Mexican style Tacos you can find them in any neighborhood in the south side of Chicago! Pilsen, little village,...
Read moreThis place is absolutely fantastic. My wife and I come here regularly and have enjoyed each and every meal! We will usually order a Guacamole (which they have seasonal ones with fruit in them...amazing) and 2 orders of tacos (4 per order). This is plenty of food and allows you to try 2 different kinds of tacos. I could recommend the Bien Trucha, Diabla and A Toda Madre Tacos...all 3 are delicious! If you are REALLY hungry, get the Pollo Tacos...they are basically like giant chicken flautas with melted cheese on top, which are very filling, but amazing. Every meal comes with chips and beans (which sounds different...but is delicious). For drinks, I would recommend the Ahuacti, which is made avocado, lime, exotico, orange liquor, mezcal. The avocado sounds weird, but I assure you it is simply amazing! Several of my friends have tried it and have said it is their favorite drink of all time. Pro Tip - This restaurant accepts call ahead seating after 5 and will text you 15 min before your table is ready. Due to the fact that the waiting area is small and there is ALWAYS a wait, if you live within 15 min of the restaurant, it is nice to stay at home and drive over when you get the text! This makes the whole experience much...
